I think I've identified a consumer of potential models, as in attract, take money off, disillusion and put off.

Instagram adverts for modelmanagement.com and modelsuk.com (Co.uk ??) Which the naive might think are agencies, and the cynical might think are puffed by shills.

Did nobody review the name? Model Suk dot com?

It depends what you’re using ur for! I use it to browse portfolios, to have my references available and yes I offer portfolio builders, so for me it’s essential but I’d you don’t feel paying is merited and can reduce your port to only 15 images why not give it a try? Alternatively you could be more constructively active on pp! Just depends what you want to get out of it???!

Could be worse.

For years the British Journal of Photography used the domain bjphoto.co.uk

Anyway for advice try and cut your port down to just the best 10% of varied shorts

Yep. When I have time, I'm going to try to be brutal.

If you leave here where do you go, there are not many sites that service photographers/models.

That's another problem. While PP is the site du jour, it's the one I probably should be on, but we've seen sites come and go and my fear is the reputation of PP - whether deserved or not - could mean a new pretender assumes the mantle.

Not forgetting ExpertsExchange  read as ExpertSexChange  and PowergenItalia read as PowerGenitalia,  and Thereapist.com was TheRapist.com

I'm not sure what you mean: the forums are predominantly used by photographers and as I already noted, the vast majority of my profile viewers are photographers. When I pop on here I'll have a look at some images and love the nice ones I see.

Back in the OP, you said; Given that attracting models to shoot with me is my prime purpose for being on here, you have to ask "what's the point"?

Have you considered asking for a portfolio review?

The last time you posted a casting call was in 2017.

When was the last time you messaged a model and offered to shoot with them?

You don't seem to use the site's features that would bring you into people's thoughts, such as shouts, public image collections and lists, loving and commenting on images etc.

1. Have you considered asking for a portfolio review?

2. The last time you posted a casting call was in 2017.

3. When was the last time you messaged a model and offered to shoot with them?

4. You don't seem to use the site's features that would bring you into people's thoughts, such as shouts, public image collections and lists, loving and commenting on images etc.

  1. No. Given I shoot for myself predominantly, I know the images I prefer and which are weaker, plus any art from is subjective and what one reviewer might like, another might hate.  My low number of FPIs as the site has grown is another indicator of a lack of quality too by that measure.
  2. That was an absolute waste of time! If I recall correctly that was the one where I was seeking a heavily tattooed model with a shoot style in mind and one of the extremely low level of responses was from one model I'd already shot twice saying she was interested if she fit the brief. She has no tattoos...
  3. For me shoots are a two-way street, so I tend to add models to my WLTWW lists and love some of their best images (to me), and see if they reciprocate or even visit the portfolio. Very few do.  I used to use the socials to actually meet the models I was interested in shooting and indeed most of my favourite model collaborators were met that way.
  4. I used to use the shout box a lot. It did absolutely nothing for me. I do tend to love images, but comment less, unless they're an absolutely banging image. Those "great concept" generic comments or worse still the "phwoar" brigade ones are not my things at all.

From own experience of castings (and I cast a lot) sometimes they pay off sometimes they don't, it literally is like fishing and if you stick some £10 notes on the hook you'll get much better results.

With 3 I think you need to look at it from a models perspective, on a daily basis they will get bazillions of photographers liking their images and adding them to lists, the time suck for them would be huge if they were to reciprocate in the way you are expecting.

Have you recently removed your list or made it private as it currently isn't showing - it needs to be public for models to know they are on it.

Although I know the intent of such lists is to make the other parties aware of your interest I, personally, wouldn't rely on it as a reliable method of doing so

(That said I don't use a public list as I only get in contact with those I want to work with when I am able to specifically offer working with them)

Well to be fair, that was a paid casting and it never produced a shoot.

I can absolutely see what you mean, but expecting or hoping?

In my case at the moment, I'm travelling so often that trying to pin down time to shoot is difficult. I had hoped that holiday making models might want to shoot to help pay for their own selfie/remote shoots out here in FUE but in the years we've been out here there has been zero interest (not counting some shoots with friends like Pixie and Cheryl who've stayed with us).

I've now bought a place in Surrey so my favourite studio is now no longer local. Mrs RHM is going to be doing up one room for shoots/remote shoots so I might start shooting from there in 2024.

Aha! Finally found how to manage my lists! I had no idea they were hidden. I always thought when you added someone to a list they've receive a notification?

Go into the list.

The text at the top starts with either

This is a public list. This means everyone added to the list gets notified via email and their activity feed. It's often quite flattering to get added to lists and it can often be something of an icebreaker.

or

This is a private list. This means when you add people to it, no-one but you knows. It's quite flattering to get added to lists and it can often be something of an icebreaker but we keep lists for many reasons and having private lists means no-one other than you can see it.
