I’m wondering how it’s going to be possible to advertise nice lingerie now!!

Just think that iconic Levis advert:

It sexualizes men, and we cannot have that in this day and age. What is that about, is it to not offend all the flabby out of shape males?

You could argue anything which shows the best of someone cannot be allowed, the Olympics, that is quite offensive to those who are non-athletic, no?

I read somewhere, recently, that the next big decline of civilization won't come about from war or famine or disaster, but from society.

Seems likely.

I think it's already happening

News just in...Boohoo have dropped their offensive swimwear line and replaced with a more socially acceptable range:

That's only acceptable to the French.

Or to the Dutch if she lies on her side.

Incidentally, I notice that it's in the old French flag colours, i.e. the ones that Giscard d'Estaing brought in in 1974 with the lighter blue, rather than the new colours, i.e. the ones which Emmanuel Macron introduced last year with royal blue, or should I say re-introduced, because it reverts to the colours prior to d'Estaing's change.

I watch too much YouTube.

I guess you didn't read about the burkini ban though

I suspect that Boohoo are probably disappointed. Of course the pics are sexual. Boohoo would have been aware of that. And I reckon they thought that a nice bit of controversy would be superb - and free - publicity for their product. But to get only one complaint?  That must have disappointed them.

Not that I would accuse anyone of such skullduggery, but one could possibly maintain a department whose job was to invite controversy if a particular product wasn't meeting sales expectations?  ;-)

ASA described this as "two images in the ad showed a model wearing the T-shirt with only thong-style bikini bottoms and trainers;"

Not sure that would count as a thong for many PP users!

More like apple catchers than a thong.

I’d like to know who found this offensive? It’s ridiculous

Tarmoo said, 1645040474

The problem seems to because of a mix between t shirt and bikini in the image. There are hundreds of sexy bikini photos on their website which don't seem to have upset anyone ... see https://www.boohoo.com/womens/swimwear/bikinis

The shocking thing is just how cheap their clothes are ... there are a lot of items under £6, which presumably means many items will be worn only once and binned.

As given, if it was advertising the thong on the bottom, no problem.

Some editorial style photos list each item on show, including model's own, which seems a way to progress.

Model's own bottom, presumably?

Out there, in the real world, an advert like that could cost someone their job. You're innocently browsing a webpage in your lunch break (which many employers allow you to do), and those images come up as a quarter or full page ad ... just as the HR director / senior manager / team manager / someone that doesn't like you walks by.

Of the three images, two of them would be classed as NSFW by PP.

We live in our own world on here, and forget that many do not share our view.

Brands Boohoo, Pretty Little Things and Missguided have been in trouble with the ASA for a while now.

See https://medium.com/writing-in-the-media/is-online-clothing-advertising-too-sexualised-daad8783db09 back in Feb 2020.

These adverts are targetted at young women, who don't seem to be offended by them. They are targetted at the same demographic who watch Love Island.
