Boohoo advert banned by ASA for 'Sexualizing Women'

So this is the image which "is likely to cause offence":

Boohoo said the model was wearing the T-shirt with a bikini as part of their swimwear range.

The ASA said it had received a complaint that the ad was offensive, harmful and irresponsible.

The images pictured the model kneeling from rear-view, sitting on the floor with legs apart and lifting the T-shirt.

"For those reasons, we concluded that the ad objectified and sexualised women. It was therefore irresponsible and likely to cause serious offence," the ASA said.

(posted to general as it is related to modelling and what society finds acceptable)

I read somewhere, recently, that the next big decline of civilization won't come about from war or famine or disaster, but from society.

Seems likely.

I'm still trying to ascertain if this was the result of a single complaint to the ASA?

I don't see how these pictures differ than thousands of others. Perhaps they should all be banned?

If anyone finds the banning of the ad offensive, harmful and irresposible they can easily make a complaint to the ASA.

https://www.asa.org.uk/

These people get their way simply because they actively put the pressure on organisations, and the more liberal majority do not bother to respond.

Sorry, incidentally if you look at the page it says there was only 1 complaint.

I'm just seeing a blank screen for that, which presumably solves the problem!

I suspect that Boohoo are probably disappointed. Of course the pics are sexual. Boohoo would have been aware of that. And I reckon they thought that a nice bit of controversy would be superb - and free - publicity for their product. But to get only one complaint?  That must have disappointed them.

So much for the 'strength' of the silent majority.

From the ASA report  "Two images in the ad showed a model wearing the T-shirt with only thong-style bikini bottoms and trainers"

To me they are normal bikini bottoms, not a thong style? also:

"In one of the images, the model was shown from the rear in a kneeling position and we noted that the T-shirt was folded under so that the bikini bottoms and the model’s buttocks and naked legs were visible and prominent. We considered that the image emphasised the model’s buttocks and legs rather than the product and that she was posed in a sexually suggestive way from behind, with her hand appearing to be tucked into the bikini bottoms at the front."

OMG naked legs are showing!

Appears to be a single complaint..

Personally much more offended, well not that the Boohoo images above are in ANY way offensive, by the girls tops that have "PORN *" or "Future WAG" printed on them, and the parents that buy them. That and the "throw-away" single-use fashion companies encourage. Too many issues WAY more important.

I would be more concerned about the Tango/Dorito tan look.

ASA described this as "two images in the ad showed a model wearing the T-shirt with only thong-style bikini bottoms and trainers;"

Not sure that would count as a thong for many PP users!
