Is it just me or is there a growing divide between models and photographers (especially on the forums)?

Although I have been on Purple Port a good while, and have done a fair number of shoots, I have never really been a part of the whole model photographer scene. I don’t do Facebook, we have no socials in Wiltshire and I just shoot, edit my images and read & occasionally comment in the forums.

That said, I am noticing a trend where it seems there is a growing divide, at least on PP, between models and photographers - which is something I just don’t understand.

When I first joined models were active in the forums - now I hear they don’t post because of the grief they get or because they worry it will cost them work. The forums, for me, are worse off for this.

There seems to be a disproportionate amount of bad feeling for models who use only fans etc. As long as the have the ‘rights’ to use the images (and most I gather are self shot) - What is the problem (rhetorical question) As it is a safe way for them to make income - fair play to you all

There is an awful lot of model bashing about their castings - but let’s be honest there are probably an equal amount of photographers casting for TF shoots that can’t produce great quality images (so how is this different from ‘unrealistic ‘ model castings)?

Pretty much every model I have shot with have been talented, hard working, skilled and a joy to shoot with - so I guess I am just confused as to why I see a situation developing (at least in the forums), that I don’t recognise from my experience.

I will probably be battered for being a ‘white knight’, but I personally don’t like the way I see the forums and atmosphere going, so wanted to say something.

I love shooting landscapes and flowers but my passion is model photography and for that I need awesome models on PP so I can arrange shoots with hem.

Peace

If you were to go by the forums you might think so, but members that are active on the forums ar a tiny minority. By and large i think we get on and just do our stuff(most of us)

I really hope this is the case :)

The forums are the entertainment provided to all members free or paid, and really have nothing to do with organising and enjoying the hobby.

Some spend all day bickering instead if indulging their passion. Busy models don't have the time to waste on such trivialities. However, PP is the sum of the parts and there's a little something for all to enjoy.

Busy models used to quite often comment in the forums, and hopefully it is just the way the world has moved on, and not that they have been driven off the forums.

I hope I have got it completely wrong, and you and Bigfish are correct :)

Most of the problem I see is people using the forums to tell others what they should and shouldn't do.

It's always been like that.

Maybe people are deciding to then take these arguments on Facebook which is incredibly toxic more often.

It's the Facebook ranting that I recon is making it seem more divided.

That and that photographers and models are far more diverse and less tied to each other.

All happy and harmonious in my part of the world I wouldn’t worry too much about the forums or use them as a temperature gauge for the real workd.

Unfortunately, social media and forums appear now to divide and polarise, the loudest most polarised voices tend to be the ones that people most take notice of.

I have made some amazing friends in the industry, both models and photographers. My photographer friends are awesome and I guess now I see both sides of debates as I work on both sides of the camera.

I don’t use the site or forums too frequently now I dont use modelling as a source of income so only really post if I adore something or it makes me want to speak out.

The forums have always shown more negativity in the industry than I’d like so I guess I take it with a pinch of salt.

All love from here ♥

Thankfully I stay away from Facebook

Thanks all - this reassures me

Maybe I will just stay away from the forums more and only read what should be positive posts :)

There are more people, so there will be more of anything that scales.

Also, over the last few and more so the last couple of years, UK society has become more angry and nastier.

Photographers rant on here and models on Facebook and some on both.

I think the site owners have got fed up with all the facebook stuff and that is influencing their attitude to references and a whole load of other things.

Hey Graham,
I don't normally even look at the forums because I think they can be rather toxic...
I realised that it wasn't worth my energy to come on and get upset about the misogynists
or try and talk reasonably to people that are just aggressive...

If anyone's found the forums a difficult place then just remember that the few that like the sound of their own voice do not represent the majority!!
There are many thousands of members here and most of us get along without trouble..
there will be always be issues..
and there will always be bollo**s sputed on internet forums....

I'm currently avoiding doing my tax return so made the unwise move to open general chat and saw your name..

so here I am saying hi to one of the bestest guys- helllooo!!!

I think in some ways there could be a growing divide, in the sense that as many models gain control
of their image/content they have less need for photographers...and this can generate bad feeling...

But I'm sure I don't speak for just myself when I say that many models will remain interested in
classy shoots with lovely photographers even if they are also producing their own content.

It’s only on the forums. Most models would rather have root canal than contribute to the forums as the former is probably less hassle and pain.

Probably less than 1% of the membership actively contribute to the forums. It’s not necessarily an indicator of true feelings of the majority.

Nasty and skint, a bit of Jeremy Kyle fodder.
