Account search

Sensual Art

In the Account search box at the top of any page, I can type part of a user's name and get prompted with a list of matches.  I can then click on one of the users and go to their profile.
Great.
Except if I know there are two users with similar names, or perhaps one person with two accounts by similar names.

A case in point: I wanted to look up Laura J Draycon's artist/bodypainting account.  I found it - DrayconDesigns

But then I wanted to go back and look at her model profile, which had also appeared in the search.
So I clicked Back, then clicked in the search field again to edit what I'd looked for to find the other one.
And that's where the problem happens: because clicking on the name first time had auto-completed her user name in that field, clicking on it again automatically went straight to her artist account again.

I didn't want that.

I wanted to go to LauraJDraycon but it wouldn't let me unless I typed it again.

To anyone saying "just type it again" I say two things:

  1. "typing" on a small mobile phone's screen is not as easy as typing on a big desktop computer, so please don't dismiss me with a "just...".
  2. I shouldn't have to - the site has deliberately made it harder for me.

What I want:

  • When I search, do indeed show the list of users whose names match what I've typed.
  • When I click on one, don't fill that control with their name.
  • If I happen to type someone's name completely, don't automatically go to it if I click in the field - allow me to edit what I've typed.

It would help if they could make the listed profiles clickable to open in a new page. If it was not who you were looking for you could simply close the new page leaving the original page with the list intact.  I am not script savvy but surely that would not be to hard to do?

That would be even better, yes!

I wish you could select part of a name as a box in the regular account search.  I've often looked for a model knowing part of the name and not given enough in the list to choose from.  It if was part of the regular search I could look at one of 23 (for example) Rachels (for example) on the site.

I think there's enough overlap between your suggestion and mine from a couple of months ago https://purpleport.com/group/bugs-errors-suggestions/196091/Ideas-for-enhancements-to-the-Image-Manager/ that we can safely say that it's already on the PP Development team's radar :)

Is that a phone browser thing rather than a PP thing ? I don't get that in my desktop browser, and I **think** that it's your phone's browser thinking it is being helpful but not.

I think you raise 2 points:

1) I'm on Chrome latest...and I don't get that same behavior of caching the previous name.

2) Actually I like the fact when I've type a name complete, it automatically goes to that profile, but I understand what you mean as the situation occurs for those that have relative longer names (eg. acct = ABC vs acct = ABCD).

CalmNudes Ringo I've reproduced it in:

  • Firefox on Windows 10
  • Chrome on Windows 10
  • Firefox on Android
  • Chrome on Android

Method:

  • Tap/click in the Account search field
  • Type drayc
  • Tap/click on the first entry, which is for Draycon Designs
  • Notice that the search field briefly fills with the full user name
  • The browser navigates to that user's profile page
  • Browser Back
  • Notice that the Account search field is still populated with that user's full user name
  • Tap/click in the Account search field
  • The browser navigates to that user's profile page

When you go back to a page, it's not surprising that the browser merely shows the page as it was, complete with form contents. Maybe there is an option in your browser that will clear the form field when you go back.

I suggest just typing into the account search on whatever page you are on, no need to go back unless there is something on the previous page.

Russ Freeman Or maybe you could just make the small change that Fantasia suggested earlier, and let us open the profiles in new tabs?

Sorry mate Sensual Art , when I follow your instructions and go back the search field is clear, so as I start to enter 'drayc' I get both entries again available to select either.

Opening the profiles in new tabs seems to be the better way forward for this. I see that as the sensible way forward. 🙂
