I'll ask again - Can we see those who don't vote?

Raj Singh , it just goes to show that the message received is far more important than the message sent, especially regarding sarcasm.

Just to clarify, I don't see the exclusion of non-voting comp entrants as a punishment, and I never have. It is the cost of entry, and that's why you can, at minimum, vote for your own entry and no one else's if you wish.

Also, I don't think we need a vote on ways to change the voting methods since it was all carefully designed many years ago and has proven its success ever since.

I am sorry that you thought that last sentence was a serious idea.

I actually have no problem whatsoever with the way the competition is run or the rules.

And I didn’t take the last sentence of your first comment as a serious idea.

All that caught my eye was the use of the word ‘punishment’.

My first comment back to you was a serious question.

There’s an inequity that there is an exclusion rule for non voting entrants, but not one for non entering voters.

I ended that question deliberately using the term ‘punishment’ as you had used the term first.

You replied by saying it wasn’t a punishment but rather a ‘rule’.

Now, you could have used that very same term ‘rule’ rather than ‘punishment’ in your opening comment on this thread.

It’s a poor choice of words that I suggested you reflect upon, as it gives a casual reader a poor impression of how you view your paying members.

I’m not saying this to goad you, just dropping some friendly commentary from a member that loves being here and participating that it does come across as a poor choice of words even at the end of a ‘95%’ sarcastic comment.

A simple acknowledgment of that was all I was seeking.

I'm mainly with the op.

The fun of voting is looking afterwards to see how well the images did. It takes some of the fun away if I can't find them. Just showing the disqualified images would solve this.

I don't see any benefit to naming the disqualified entrants. But I don't see any harm in it either....forgetting to vote isn't shameful.

Thank you.  Glad I'm not the only one.

How about, if you vote for someone that entered but didn't vote at some point in the recent past, you are unable to vote at all.

What about, for example, if on Tuesday you voted for more than one entry that didn't vote, then you cannot vote on Tuesdays for six weeks.

How about, if you vote for people that entered but didn't vote, then you get docked 1 month of VIP.

If mercury is rising, and your star sign is dinosaur, and you voted for people that excluded themselves because they didn't vote, then you get 3 months VIP for free.

So many options. I am trapped by analysis paralysis. Maybe we need a way to vote on ways to change the voting methods and punishments/rewards.

Russ, it's a database query isn't it ?  A table of entries, a table of votes / voters,  if entrant is not in list of voters count them for the summary, hide their picture. So not a big to display all pictures with "Didn't vote, disqualified" where needed ?  Might that add to the sum of customer happiness ? (every action has an equal and opposite criticism and all that - who knows who would hate having the extra pictures shown.)

Maybe we could have, N+2 votes, and the best N count (allowing for 2 entries to be excluded for not voting)? I'm sure it adds complexity to the vote counting though

On a side note - I think it voting for your own image should be disallowed (if it hasn't already been implemented).

What about if you enter and don't vote a certain number of times in a row you get a ban for a week? I dunno, just a suggestion.

I see voting more my own personal interest in what I think are great images, the months worth of VIP is nice but it's not the end of the world if it never happens. It's £4 or something

Something discussion for something that is intended to be fun and the reward if you come first is so minor.

Or at least it should be made clear in the rules that you can vote for yourself. When I see entrants with 0 votes I wonder whether they know they can vote for themself. But if everyone did vote for themselves you might as well just have 4 votes and disallow voting for yourself, as you suggested.

Sure, there have been times when I've voted for myself because I honestly thought my entry was one of the best, but by the same token there have been times when I've entered a competition, only to recognise that there are many entries better than mine, so tried to guess which would be the top five and voted for those instead.

Sensual Art I enter the comp to see what others think of my submission; it goes without saying I like my photo or I wouldn't have entered. Nul points doesn't offend me

Andy McG said, 1725877714

Wow!  20% of entries rejected yesterday as people didn't vote.  Despite 2 of those being ones I voted for I still managed to spot 3 out of the top 4.

But I'd love to see the two entries I voted for that didn't make it to see how many votes they got.

Put them just under the current list as "Rejected entries".  Can't think it's much work.

Come on admin, to quote Tiswas "This is what we want".

I think that voting for oneself smacks of desperation.

Just my opinion. Other opinions are available.

Andy McG It seems the vast majority of suggestions on here, good or bad, just get ignored or rejected unfortunately.
