Trigger warning - This post discusses AI, robotics, and various new technologies. It is intended only to spark positive conversation.
Chat GPT announces its new '03 model,' which might have cracked—or come close to—AGI. The benchmark data shown in the linked video reveals a startling jump in 'brain power' compared to versions released just a few months ago, and now it’s progressing at an almost unfathomable rate.
To add to this, Google recently announced that it has developed the first quantum computing processor capable of solving a problem in five minutes—a task that would take a supercomputer ten septillion years. Coupled with current AI, this could make AI grow even more mind-bendingly intelligent, faster than it’s already advancing.
If that wasn’t enough, the android scene has also taken a mind-bending leap forward with Figure 02 now working extremely effectively in BMW factories. Elon’s Optimus will begin taking jobs in Tesla factories in the summer of 2025, and it will be on sale to the public at the end of 2025 or the start of 2026. In addition, a newcomer to the scene has created a robot called Clone Alpha, which is eerily human-like, has even more dexterity than a human body, and runs on water.
Now, with these three converging technologies growing at such an unprecedented rate—and continually merging—it’s expected that self-motivated robots could become more prevalent in society as early as next year. As we’ve seen with mobile phones, computing, and cameras and cars of course, an exciting technology like this—one that most households will want—tends to advance and expand faster than production capabilities, year after year. This could very well make it one of the fastest-growing industries humanity has ever known.
What that will do to the creative industries is anyone’s guess at this point. It’s already impacting them with generative fill and various other AI services available online. Even Netflix is trying to develop a system where you can request a movie—choose the genre and actors—and have AI create the movie for you on the fly. While that might be wonderful in practice, it certainly won’t make actors happy, as it risks making them unemployed or redundant.
Even the games industry has been flooded with AI. Various games have received ChatGPT-like integrations, allowing in-game characters to behave almost like real people and generate unique dialogue on the fly.
Of course, the industry has already begun integrating humanoid robots into traditional human-held positions—like those at BMW, Tesla, and Amazon—and this progress will continue, with discussions already taking place about using them as teachers and in NHS settings to reduce spending and downtime in education and healthcare. They’re also creating a smart call system for GPs in the UK to cut waiting times. One day, your GP could even be artificial.....
Again these are just few things ive been watching and thought would be of interest to those interested in the AI subject :-)
