The PurplePort Guide to Lists

By Russ Freeman, written 1365167960

Lists are a great way to help you stay organised. They can be used for keeping track of other members you want to work with or as a list of anyone who inspires you.

Types of lists

You can create a public (other members can see them) or a private (only you can see them) list.

Be mindful that if you add someone to your public list, that person will see what you have called the list. Don't create a public list of people you don't want to work with or want to avoid. It sends all of the wrong messages. We don't allow negative lists on PurplePort; we will delete them if we discover them.

Don't create a private list that is negative. One day, there may be a bug in PurplePort where all private lists are made public. Consider this when you create a private list.

Want to Work With (WTWW) lists

There's a type of list you add members to called a Want to Work With (WTWW) list, which automatically tells everyone you add that you want to work with them.

A WTWW list is a fabulous way of letting someone know you'd like to work with them, without sending a message. It's a simple and easy connection between the two of you.

Add other members to lists (and how to create a list)

To add someone to a list, view the portfolio page of the person you want to add and click Add to List (near the top of their portfolio page).

Then, you can either:

  • Create a new list - Give the list a name (in the Name box below New list), set the privacy (private or public) and decide if it's a Want to Work With (WTWW) list and click Create new list
    OR
  • Add to them an existing list - Tick the lists you want to add them to and click Close

If you want to remove someone from your list, view the list, hover your mouse over their avatar and click the (or when using a mobile device, tap their avatar and tap the X).

If you need to edit a list you have created (e.g. change the list name, privacy, or details), view the list and click Click details (top right).

View lists you have created

You can see all of the lists you have created (including your WTWW lists) on the (logged-in) homepage. Go to the grey cog (top right), click Images Home (under Images), and scroll down to Your lists

You can also view lists you have created from the Your Lists panel displayed on your portfolio page (lower right-hand side of the page if using a desktop device).

View other people's lists you have been added to

You can view other people's lists that you have been added to from your portfolio page. Go to the grey cog (top right) on your portfolio page and click Lists (under Extra Tools). Any lists created by other people that you have been added to will be displayed here.

If you want to remove yourself from someone else's list, view the list, hover your mouse over your avatar, and click the (or when using a mobile device, tap your avatar and the X).

Use lists with the Search feature

Create a list from search results

When using the search feature, you can easily add everyone in the results to either a new private list or an existing list. Once you have members in your search results who you want to save to a list, go to the grey cog (top right) and select either Create new private list or Add to existing list.

Use lists as an extra search filter

Any lists you create can be used as an extra filter to customise your results on the Search feature.

For example, if you have a list of people you want to work with, you can ensure that your search results only include those members by tailoring your search results to show only people who appear in a list:

  • Under Search Options, scroll down to Advanced Search
  • Click the drop-down menu from the Must be in filter
  • Select the list you want to use from the options

For example, if you have a list of people you have arranged photoshoots with and you are looking for new creatives to work with, you can ensure your search results don't include those members by tailoring your search results so they don't show anyone who appears in a list:

  • Under Search Options, scroll down to Advanced Search
  • Click the drop-down menu from the Not in filter
  • Select the list you want to use from the options

You can also show only those who want to work with you in your search results (i.e. everyone who has added you to their Want to Work With (WTWW) list):

  • Under Search Options, scroll down to Advanced Search
  • Tick WTWW you?

FAQs

What should I do if someone adds me to a list?

If it's flattering, send them a message and thank them! It may lead to a shoot, and you both creating some awesome images together!

What if someone adds me to a negative list?

If you think the list breaks PurplePort rules, please report this to us by creating a support ticket from our Help & Support page (and include a link to the list so we can investigate).
