The PurplePort Guide to Image Collections

By Russ Freeman, written 1365167956

An image collection is a tool for gathering photos on PurplePort that other members have uploaded. These could be inspiring images, images you love, or images you wish to use on your next shoot.

When you find such images while browsing PurplePort (e.g. using Image Search), you can add them to an image collection to use as a mood board for your shoot ideas (which you keep private or public).

Public vs. private image collections

Your image collection can be public or private.

Only you can view your private image collections. No one else can view these collections, nor will they know about them.

A public image collection can be seen by anyone (even non-members can view it). When you add an image to a public image collection, the people tagged in the image will get notified. Often, it can be flattering and lead to a message exchange (and hopefully, you both working together!).

How to add images to collections (and create a new collection)

To add an image to a new image collection:

  • View an image
  • Click Collect (top right)
  • On the popup, under the heading New collection, give your collection a name and choose whether it's a public collection
  • Click Create Collection

This will create a new image collection.

To add an image to an existing image collection, click Collect, tick the collection you want to use, and click Close

No negative image collections allowed

Do not create a public image collection of images you think are terrible. It sends all of the wrong messages. In fact, don't create negative image collections at all. One day, there might be a bug in PurplePort so everyone can see your image collection - think about that!

How to view image collections you have created

You can find a list of image collections you have created from your Images home page:

  • From your homepage, go to the grey cog and click Images home (under the heading Images)
  • Scroll down to Your image collections

You can also find a list of your image collections on your portfolio page. View your portfolio page and scroll down to Your Collections (near the top of the page on mobile or down the right-hand side on desktop).

How to remove images from collections

View your collection, move the mouse cursor over the image you want to remove and click X.

FAQs

What should I do if someone adds my image to a collection?

If it's flattering, send them a message and thank them! It may lead to a shoot and, hopefully, to you both creating awesome images together!

If it's not flattering and you think the image collection breaks our rules, please report it by clicking Report on the collection or creating a support ticket from our Help & Support page (please include a link to the image collection).

Can I stop my images from being collected?

Yes, you can. Go to your General Site Settings page, tick Prevent others from collecting your images and click Update preferences

I've seen 'Collect' and 'Collections' on an image. What do these mean?

Below are two options you may see when viewing another member's image:

  • Collect: Allows you to collect the image and add it to your collection (you will only see this if someone has allowed their images to be collected)
  • Collections: Shows you how many image collections other members have added the image to (you will only see this if another member has added the image to their image collection)

I'm stuck and need help. What can I do?

We're here to help. You can contact us anytime by creating a support ticket from our Help & Support page.
