Not sure I would pick any of them, for various reasons.

Being your own photo editor takes a bit of time, something you need to study from looking at images in books, web, and other sources.

What Makes a good photo? who knows but I know one when I see it.

Personally, my favourites are number 1 followed by number 7. All are beautifully executed but these are the stand out to me.

Definitely 1.

1 is gorgeous, though the bow in 7 throws me off from the face a little.
Number 2 and 10 are also lovely!

Number 3 - for the swirly hair if nothing else.

OK, here goes.

  1. Not sure about this one, I like her expression (even though it is a wee bit up nose) but not keen on the crop as I feel it could do with losing some of her chest - also... the shadow on the left is too heavy for my liking, I keep thinking the background is a barcode and I don't like how her hands are disappearing off the sides.

  2. The background is a wee bit too bright and distracting. The box (or whatever it is) by her left thigh is very distracting. The shoes could also have done without the leaves on them. Personally I feel this shot could have been improved with more separation from the background - ie. put more distance between the model and background. If there wasn't the space then perhaps a 3/4 length with a tele lens and a wider aperture.

  3. Again I quite like this and her expression but feel it is spoilt by the crop and composition. Everything from the shoulders downwards is far too messy for my liking. That said, I think it might work quite well in a square format.

  4. Meh, mainly down to the pose and composition. I don't think it is too flattering on the model either.

  5. Meh. The t-shirt could do with the help of an iron. The highlight and shadow on the background by her left arm/shoulder is distracting. The hair is neither tidy nor messy enough - needs to be one or the other. Once more, I quite like the model's expression.

  6. I like where you are trying to go with this and the composition too, but would prefer it to be a bit more under-exposed as well as her shirt pulled closer to hide the bra and all of her feet to be in view.

  7. Really don't like this at all. Expression, bow, hair, hand... just all wrong (for me).

  8. Again, this might be better as a square format - losing the top and bottom will make it less distracting. Would also be nicer if the model's left arm didn't come out of her head.

  9. Again, square perhaps or a bit more negative space to the left might have been better. The strands of hair (or whatever) to her left is really distracting and the shadow there is too heavy.

  10. Erm... she's magenta!!!

Overall, I feel you need to think about and look out for the little details a lot more than you are currently doing.

I would also consider whether you have got your monitor properly set up as the colours and exposures are a wee bit off. My own technique is not to rely on how it looks onscreen (even if it is calibrated) but to check the actual pixel data (ie. "Info" palette readings in Photoshop. Admittedly that might take some practice and experience, but more reliable.

Sorry if it sounds a bit negative but I hope you can see some/any benefit and the potential for improvement from my words. Alternatively you can choose to ignore as I am not a qualified expert - just someone with opinions.  :)

I like the B&W headshots. A little time editing with the patch tool will finish them off nicely.

I think No.2 is the weakest image (highlights seem blown out and it feels like a snapshot) and No. 4 the strongest (lovely composition, perspective and colours).

Hi,

Thanks for giving such a detailed critique to my images.

I appreciate every comment you have made, here are my thoughts,

I agree with one, it would look better with some more cropped from her chest but I crop in proportion to the image size and I wouldn't want to lose any width from the image. I chose this angle to give a different viewpoint as I seemed to be taking a lot of photos of her straight on and wanted a different view point. I was also experimenting with the lighting and different backgrounds and wanted this shot to have a good strong contrast.

I agree that two has a very bright background and she is wearing peep toe heels there aren't leaves on her shoes.

number three i agree her hair is messy, but I like the crop and composition.

Number four I'm not so keen on her pose, down to leg position but I do like the composition with the staggered bales. I have another shot like this with her legs out straight I will edit and replace.

Number five, I agree with you.

Number six, I agree, I was at a very awkward angle and couldn't manage to get her feet in (leaning over a bale hoping not to fall over! :P ) I'm not so bothered about the light levels overall but the highlights on her shirt are too bright that I see now. Thankyou for pointing it out. =] I have another similar on my page that I will use and remove this one.

number 7, There is something about her expression that catches me, I'm not sure what it is but I like it. Its as if shes  telling the viewer something. (even if it is a negative communication it still catches the eye. imho)

number 8 agree with the arm out of the head thing but assume most people would make the connection of it being attached to her body :P Again with the crop, its a proportion thing. something I do as standard to keep my prints in proportion to each other.

number 9 I agree about the hair strands being distracting, and I see your point about the composition.

number 10 I was being creative! :P and I still like it :D

Thanks alot for your comments it's made me think more about the images.

Thanks to everyone else for your comments also it means alot! :D
