What do you prefer, Group Shoot or 121!

I wouldn't touch a group shoot with a barge pole.

121 every time.

I'm going to a group shoot tomorrow. The posh photographers always knock (disparage) them on forum discussions, but I don't.

Oi - watch it!  Who are you calling posh, and some of us don't!  :-)

Well, (seeing as we first met in person on a group shoot) and I've never heard or seen you disparage them, I think we can say you are in the clear. 🤣

One to one.

I'm not pushy enough & sometimes find myself too much in the background. Group shoots can be useful for unusual or expensive locations.

Actually, this.  I only did 1 and it was for a model from Oop North at a great location.

Studio days are a good halfway house if the studio is any good or you only want a certain type of shot.  I would though recommend bringing your own wardrobe because the model will have been shot in what you shoot her.

121 generally. However, I do occasionally run group shots for photographers who want to shoot a model with an aircraft. These are usually a limited number place event.

As I'm just starting out, I'm pretty self-conscious about making an idiot of myself, so 1-2-1 is absolutely the way to go (at least for now).

I beg to differ, you might benefit from the help of others at a time when things go wrong or schoolboy errors are made. I've witnessed it on many occasions when the new to studio environment struggle and help/guidance is offered, that is a more efficient way to learn imho.

Thanks for the thought. As I say, my biggest stumbling block is that I'm quite self-conscious in any "new" environment.

PauloUK best way to learn is to make an idiot of yourself, then do something different the next time :)

Tried that myself. The first bit is easy. The learning from it is a challenge.

:)

Yep, absolutely!

Yes, this is the way to go.

Just take photographs and don't worry if you fail a lot.

There does seem to be much worrying going on in the pursuit of perfect images. I just try all sorts of things and I don't care if it fails.

Over the years I have seen the contact sheets of a famous photographs and without fail, the surrounding images are nothing.

I take great heart from this......apart from not actually getting a famous image of course!

Thanks!

Depends.

I wouldn't do the sort of group shoot where everything is done for you and then you just press the button.  Pointless.

The sort of group shoot where it is organised well, not overcrowded and crucially you have the freedom of your own slot time to shoot how you want.

Very useful.  Most recently a group shoot with Carla Monaco near Swindon.

Otherwise 1 2 1 all the way.  I prefer it for the simplicity.  Just Photographer, Model and Camera.  Usually on location , whether indoors or outdoors.

I don't get much opportunity to shoot in Studio's.  Only one I know of in Bristol now.

I did get to shoot Dominika at Full Moon Studios (fabulous place now closed unfortunately).  There a setup was done and you were left to get on with it although help is always on hand.

The sort of Group Shoot where you can actually shoot and learn something yes.

Mostly my shoots have been 1 2 1 and have got results too.
