I'm an amateur photographer, living not far from Swindon.
I've enjoyed photography as a hobby for many years, but have not really specialised in any particular genre. I have landscapes, seascapes, sculpture, insects, flowers, and so on, as well as family and friends.
Over the years, I have become interested in the development of photography as fine art, and want to understand what it is about an image that makes an impact.
This could be the tones and simple composition of Edward Weston's images, the striking experiments by the surrealists, or the brightness of modern fashion shots.
I want to try things out, to see if I can learn some of these techniques. I'd really like to collaborate with like-minded people, I need people to bounce ideas off, and who can offer constructive criticism.
I'm a relative newbie to the studio and model photogaphy in general, so if a model, or anyone else, has a (polite!) suggestion, I'm going to take it. I'm not one for planning in meticulous detail, I'd rather have a few general ideas, and see what develops.
Things I'd like to try include:
- Sunlight on water and skin (Lucien Clergue)
- Derelict (Francesca Woodman)
- Paint (Jackson Pollock, drips, rivulets)
- Classical Greek style - drapery
- Bodyscape, anonymous nude (Man Ray, Edward Weston)
- Light projection
Currently, I'm experimenting with printing on wood: The textures can be really interesting.
