“Dance for the Autumn Equinox”.

The sickle fascinates me as a symbol. Whilst it is primarily a symbol of harvesting, reaping, etc. it has also been a weapon in many peasant revolts. They also have a beautiful graceful curve. I looked for one for a long time and then a couple of years ago I found two within a few weeks of each other. With one in each hand, Raphaella performed an amazing dance routine. We had briefly looked at some photographs of Apsaras (Cambodian temple dancers) before the shoot, and she let some of this imagery inform her dance. Raphaella always brings a special grace and power to her work.
