I have been a photographer for more years than I care to recall, but over the last few I have started to work with models. I very much enjoy collaborating with models to create pleasing images.

I am always looking to stretch myself and work with new models and old friends. I particularly enjoy portrait work both in the studio and outwith. I also always consider myself open to new ideas and try new concepts. Although photography is a hobby of mine, I do however approach each shoot in a professional manner. I am not a perfectionist however I do like to achieve the best possible results each and every time I shoot with someone. I also believe the shoots that are fun for all concerned are the most creative and productive. 

Over the last few years I have been lucky to work with some outstanding models and have learned a lot through this experience.  I am also open to new ideas and concepts for shoots and welcome input from models.

Deposits - please read: I have been in the past more than happy to pay in a timely fashion deposits requested, and do understand the need for models asking for them. I deplore the behaviour of photographers who book, and then cancel at short notice without honoring deposits or agreed fees. I am still happy to pay a deposit, however there has been one particular experience which has led me to put some conditions on deposits which broadly I am still happy. The model in question who had good feedback here took my deposit, cancelled her tour, became hesitant about when it might be rescheduled then stopped communicating with me altogether leaving me considerably out of pocket including having to cancel a studio. She has now disappeared off Purpleport altogether.  I deplore the behaviour of the tiny percentage of models who behave this way too. So yes I am happy to pay you a deposit on the following simple conditions to protect my investment in the shoot. Sadly it has shaken my faith in the system of deposits which is based on trust. 

In the past year I have had to cancel 2 shoots at very short notice due to family circumstances in which case I have been happy to pay the model the full fee as I appreciate the costs incurred and loss of income, especially when models are touring. It does however work both ways and photographers too, especially those who do it for a hobby, invest their hard earned money in shoots. Sadly to protect my investment in our shoots I feel these conditions are necessary and hope they do not appear too stringent.

 If we have worked together before I am happy to pay your deposit as normal without further condition. 

If we have not worked together before, the following applies to deposits. 

1. If you do not have more than 10 verifiable good pieces of feedback here on purple port I am afraid I am not able to pay you a deposit, although I will be happy to work with you on this basis. If I cancel at short notice - which is within a week, I will pay your whole fee and I can direct you to models I have paid in such circumstances so you have evidence of my good will in this.  

2. If you have more than 10 verifiable feedback with no negative feedback and agree to shoot with me, I will not pay any more than 20% of your fees as a deposit in advance. Sorry this is not negotiable and I believe a fair figure. 

3. Regardless of the amount of feedback I may chose to verify your most recent feedback by contacting photographers you have worked with to reassure myself. 

Sorry for this, and I hope you can understand my reasons for imposing conditions on deposits.
