I have followed Owen’s excellent work for a while now, and always been impressed with his creativity and technical brilliance.

After I had worked with a model that Owen has worked with several times, and she heartily recommended him, I decided to take the plunge and I signed up for a full day of 1 to 1 tuition with the master himself!

You don’t need me to tell you just how good his output is, the consistent quality really does speak for itself. But to get under the bonnet, so to speak, and to understand how it all comes together, was a priceless experience. Even if I just absorb about ten percent of Owen’s expert tuition, I feel my standards will improve significantly. There was such a rich depth of knowledge, experience and expertise for me to take in, my head is still buzzing with it all some twenty four hours later.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Owen, from a photographer’s perspective. His approach to tuition is down to earth, hands on, and most importantly, a lot of fun! If you’re considering signing up for one of his workshops or one to one sessions, just do it! You will have the best experience!

And of course, I can’t end this review without also mentioning the lovely Nicole Rayner (the model for the day - an outstanding choice!) and Basford Hurst Cottage (the location for the day - another outstanding choice!)

I shot with Owen at Basford Hurst Cottage with Miss_C and Belle Noire.

If you've seen any of Owen's pictures, you'll know how amazing his work is. This was backed up in the shoot experience - he gave me great direction during shooting as to altering angles, lighting, expressions. All the little things that needed changing to get the right shot, and he does it in a very relaxed and chilled way that makes for a wonderful experience.

I strongly recommend shooting with Owen - you'll have both an experience and an end product to treasure.

I was lucky enough to attend Owen's Lighting Locations Workshop at Basford Hurst Cottage Studio. Lighting has always been a challenge for me, and I wanted to practice combining ambient light with various lighting effects. I have long admired Owen's work on here, so I thought that the workshop would be great opportunity to raise my skills. Owen put together a brilliant day of activities and tuition. We began with a detailed look at some of Owen's inspiration and decided on some goals before spending some time talking about about the equipment that he uses to create the effects in his beautiful images. We then used the rest of the day on some practical sets. We chose three locations at Basford, and Owen then demonstrated how he lights the effects in his images, giving me the opportunity to try myself. We got some beautiful images from the day and I learnt so much as well. He has also emailed me some comprehensive notes from the day with some helpful guidance on the equipment to acquire. All in all a most rewarding day. Not only was Owen's instruction excellent, but he was also more than ready to share how he creates his beautiful images. Thank-you Owen for an amazing day. I'm more than happy to recommend Owen's workshops to anyone looking to improve their skill set.

Another wonderful shoot with this magic man!

I have shot with Owen a few times now and each one is different from the other but each time we have an absolute blast.

This time we went for a full-body metallic duo-themed shoot which I loved every second of.

We always seem to flow freely in conversation and laugh away which always means our time shooting goes by so fast. Shooting with Owen is always a highlight and there will be many more to come I'm sure!

Well what can I say Ive been waiting to work with Owen again for a very long time.

Our last shoot was before I had children and with the pandemic in between that it’s been half a decade. Time flies.

Our first shoot was so successful with a handful of the images being in my most loved images on purpleport. So as you can see we work very well together.

Owen and I formed a connection from the get-go that hasn’t changed even if time has passed it was just like yesterday

I won’t leave it so long next time I promise.

In Search of That Perfect Shot..............

Had another shoot Basford Hurst on Saturday. This time it was a workshop by Owen Two other photographers were on the event and it was a very enjoyable day. A good choice of location and model who excelled in her posing for us. Owen was a very good tutor explaining in detail and giving both pre and post notes. Many thanks Jann.

Having admired Owen's creative use of lighting for some time I bit the bullet and booked onto to his creative lighting workshop at the wonderful Basford Hurst Cottage.

Our model for the day was the equally wonderful Nicole Rayner.

We were a small group of 3 photographers which gave everyone plenty of opportunity to explore our own ideas and time to shoot them.

Owen was great to be around and happily shares his extensive knowledge of working to an idea and ensuring that the lighting works.

I'm pretty sure we all came away with some great shots and with more confidence to go forward and create our own work in the future.

I highly recommend Owen, not only for his photographic skills but as a thoroughly nice person to be around

Had the opportunity to attend one of Owen's workshop on lighting and smoke in a location. Owen is an expert in lighting and knows his stuff inside out. More importantly he is able to transfer that knowledge with ease so those attending the course are able to get the most out of it. If you read the "pre-reading notes" he sends you then you will be as prepared as you can be.

It was a small group of 3 photographers with each having the opportunity to select a location in the venue (Basford Hurst Cottage), the type of shot you wanted, then, Owen would help you by asking, questioning, suggesting ideas for lighting and help you set it up.

6 hours of fun that was over too quickly.

I have already bought the recommended books, a smoke machine and on Monday I pick up the lights used in the shoot hoping I will be able to recreate the concepts learned.

If you are thinking of joining one of Owen's courses don't wait.

This was my first lighting workshop with Owen at Basford Hurst Cottage, and with the amazing Nicole Rayner providing the modelling talent for the event. This was a small workshop group with just three participants. The major difference to previous similar workshops I have done was that the participants selected the locations to shot in, and decided on the lighting, styling and look of the images, with Owen assisting in building up the lighting, and advising on set up, so rather than having a pre set lighting set up, it was easy to see how it was built up and how to alter the look. Eight hours of really useful information, and some really good images is a good return for the day. Will be applying the knowledge over my next shoots. Highly recommended and I am sure to be back for more in the future.

Met up with Owen and Nicole for the first time for a 121 Tuition workshop.

Owen is a great tutor very patient and takes the time to explain the whole process from the concept upto the technical aspects of the lighting and different ways in which to capture the scene.

We spent the day going through various different lighting technics using gobo's, different technics with hard and soft light, and moved onto some amazing setups involving smoke machines and lasers.

Nicole was also a total star during the day nothing was too much for her and I really appreciated being able to work with someone so professional and yet so easy to get on with as well

I throughly enjoyed every minute of the day and it certainly made the 4 hours drive up to Owen's worthwhile, I will definitely be looking out for another opportunity in the future.

Owen! What can I say?! There's so many things to say! Owen has a true talent for capturing moments that are both breathtaking and meaningful. His attention to detail and ability to create a comfortable atmosphere during shoots really sets him apart from anyone I've worked with. his work is incredibly artistic and he has a unique ability to capture the essence of models aka me liv hi 👋 😂. The attention to detail and composition in his photos are truly impressive. A good photographer possesses a combination of technical skills and artistic vision. He have a keen eye for composition, lighting (obviously it's Owen?!) , and capturing the right moment. He also understands how to connect with his model. I'm not exactly the BEST at directions but Owen is fantastic at directing me. I can understand him. Not just do this- do that. He shows me and most importantly tells me why! He's a true gent and most respectful. Ultimately, a good photographer can tell a story through their images and evoke emotions in the image. That's Owen's purpose. A true lighting god! Thankyou Owen for all the education/ knowledge and fun!! We have great run!! You have a raw talent. I get super excited every-time we shoot. And every time we shoot, I learn something new! A photographer encyclopaedia in a human being.

Today I had the opportunity to attend one of Owen’s workshops at Basford Hurst’s Cottage.

Ably assisted by Nicole Rayner, Owen provided eight hours of tuition regarding how to light you photographic subjects adding both quality lighting and atmosphere to your images.

Owen has developed both the techniques but also the equipment needed to create the stunning images we have witnessed on Purpleport.

The workshop enabled the photographer to see first hand how to develop a photographic concept and light it to meet your needs, hopefully the experience gained today will help the attendees in developing better images in the future.

Thank you Owen and Nicole a team that comes highly recommended.

I had my first shoot with Owen at the beautiful Basford hurst cottage and I am absolutely blown away by the whole thing. Pre shoot coms were great, we had clear aims of what we both wanted to achieve from the shoot. I was a bit nervous when I arrived for the shoot but was instantly put at ease when I met Owen, he was very friendly and professional and we were soon laughing and joking. Owen was great at giving direction and also happy for me to try out different poses too. Having received photos back now I’m blown away by the results and honestly couldn’t be happier. Owen is super talented and I’m so pleased I was fortunate enough to work with him. I can’t wait to shoot again very soon. Thanks Owen!

Ever since Owen first came to Basford Hurst Cottage I have been excited to work with him, and, yesterday we made that happen!!!

'The Owen' is a magician when it comes to lighting and set up!! - He pays so much attention to the small details and he absolutely nails the shot every time!!

Added to that - He is respectful and the kindest person to be around and we spent the whole time chatting, laughing and having a great time - With a little shooting and modelling in between..! Haha!

I am not sure how we ended up going from classy, soft boudoir ... to steaming hot, sweaty gym rat (complete with water splashes and oil) ... But that's what we did!!

The back of the camera looked INSANE and I have already received some edits!! I cannot wait to shoot with Owen again and I would HIGHLY recommend him!

I met Owen for the first time today after I replied to a casting he had posted for a last minute shoot.

Owen gave great pre coms and listed each set that he wanted to achieve.

Owen is a fantastic photographer very professional and a true gentleman.

When it comes to his work he is extremely knowledgeable on how he wants each set, set up with thr lights and creates outstanding images from every set he sets up.

It was a great pleasure working with him and I would definitely work with him again

'The Owen' ;) came to Basford with Nicole Rayner and I was absolutely blown away by the images they produced here!!

Owen arrived with an abundance of equipment and props. He is extremely knowledgeable, especially about lighting, and knows exactly how to create that perfect shot!!

Not only is Owen a wizard with lights, he also brings with him a wealth of new ideas and concepts - All of which worked beautifully in and around Basford Hurst Cottage.

Owen is friendly, polite and a real joy to have around!! I really hope to see Owen again soon and would highly recommend him!!

I booked on to a lighting workshop Owen was running at TBG studios. Safe to say it was highly valuable! Owen is great at setting up shots and explaining the lighting techniques he uses (as well as general tips and tricks) and really helped me get the best I could out of the day.

Owen provided advice and guidance in the pre-shoot communications which really helped get the workshop going quickly, with everyone on the same page.

I had been hoping to work with Owen on a workshop or tutorial session at some point so was delighted to be able to do so. I can definitely recommend anyone who wants to improve their studio lighting and gels skills do the same. I strongly suspect I will be on another one!

What a wonderfully creative day I had working with this ever so talented man!

Owen is so lovely to being around keeping flowing conversation throughout the day, that and the fact he is one very creatively driven visionary.

Myself and Owen came together honour and recreate the outstanding artistic creations from Boris Vallejo, with the lovely Gia as a duet.

The day was full of laughter and the images speak volumed for themselves!

Already planning our next shoot in, 1000% would recommend! x
