An Eye for Beauty

This was my first time working at The Millhouse Studio, though I had visited before to explore the potential. It was a great shoot, partly because Vicky the model had been there a few times over the years and was familiar with the set up. But it was also successful in no small measure because Justin was so helpful in setting up scenes and lighting, interpreting my ideas in a way to make them work.

One special scenario was to create a composite with Vicky being both the artist's model and the artist. It looks good in the downloads, and now it is up to my editing skills.

Great potential at The Millhouse, and I look forward to fresh encounters!

Had the absolute pleasure of shooting at The Millhouse yesterday. It's a fantastic, quirky space with so much texture, and a big selection of furniture and props. The natural light is great, and there's also a range of studio lighting available for use.

Justin, the owner, is super friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome. I'll definitely be shooting there again.

Thanks Justin!

A quick shout-out for Justin, who made Irida and myself so welcome on Friday. Extraordinary local traffic problems meant a late start in an unprepared studio, but Justin pulled out all the stops to get the studio warm, and was there in an instant whenever we needed anything.

Millhouse Studio is indeed an unusual and quirky space, full of all kinds of interesting things, and Justin was totally relaxed with us shifting stuff around and using whatever props we wanted. Very happy with what we are able to create together... a place definitely worth a second visit.

Just had a great shoot at this studio at V*'s studio day.

The studio is well equipped with lights/modifiers although the natural light is so good flash is not necessary. There are various backdrops, natural stone walls and large windows as well as a wide variety of props. There is also an outside area to shoot in.

Justin was always available for assistance and advice where necessary and was very helpful in recommending backdrops/sets.

Definitely very highly recommended and I certainly hope to shoot there again soon.

What a fantastic location and studio! I arrived extremely early (over an hour after misjudging the M5 Sunday traffic!) for a shoot with V* and yet, was made to feel very welcome. Justin, the owner could not have been more helpful, nothing was touch much trouble. He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and happy to make conversation. It turns out we have a similar taste in lighting styles, photographers and general influences.

The studio itself is lovely. Wide open, with lots of bare stone walls, large windows, and with a double door that opens onto a small courtyard. Justin has opted not to partition it off, but rather, to leave it open plan and allow the photographer to choose the appropriate area, lighting and angle. It has a relatively low ceiling, but unless you are trying to shoot a life size model of the Apollo lunar lander lit directly from above, it is unlikely to cause an issue.

Outside, there are rusty, wrought iron staircases and all sorts of possibilities....and a cafe.

During the shoot, Justin was happy to take an unobtrusive support role, but was instantly available when a prop or opinion was required.

All in all, the location, studio, facilities, and owner make a compulsive argument for shooting at Millhouse, and I can't wait to return, and see what new madness we can create!

Highly recommended.

There are virtues and proper uses for sterile white minimal studios where everything in a picture was brought in, but I like studios with history, and geography, lumpy studios with hints of industry and quirks.

This is the latter, and I like it a lot.

I suspect on a later occasion I may like the cafe as well - there's much to be said for integration and such enclaves of usefulness.

There's all the equipment we needed, a darkroom which I currently don't need but means there is interesting stuff on view, and Justin is helpful and adjacent.

I'll be back.

I think this was my 4th shoot at this gem of a studio. Justin always seems to have something new and different to keep me coming back. This time was a great shoot with the amazing IronB and we both enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and freedom to shoot so many different sets.

It clearly takes a pandemic to keep me away from this fantastic space.

This was my first shoot at this wonderful studio with the brilliant Ghost Light Photography. I can definitely say I hope to return soon!

Justin was welcoming and helpful and the studio itself is packed with character.

There are so many unique props and options to work with it’s impossible to get bored here!

A great place to shoot with many possibilities, highly recommended to all 😊

Had my first shoot at The Millhouse in ages, since before COVID.

Justin has a great collection of props that can set shoots apart from the plain shot in front of a white cove. In the past I have used it for what became some of my favourite shoots.

Justin is very helpful and we always have interesting chats.

I'd highly recommend this if you are looking for a different look. I'd like to return in the summer, where I can use the outside as well, it's and old Victorian industrial setting.

What a little gem of a studio space this is. Great balance of natural light and studio lighting available. Lovely textured walls and floors and a great collection of props and furniture to make the space your own.

Top marks to Justin as well, the perfect host, helping out when asked and then leaving you to get on with your shoot undisturbed. Also great supply of tea, coffee and biscuits, cheers Justin.

Look forward to shooting here again in the future.

Great studio :-)

Natural light, studio lights & plenty of useful props.

Justin is super helpful (but doesn't get in the way!) He's happy to make suggestions, move lights, change modifiers etc

I had a fantastic studio day at The Millhouse studio. It has to be one of my favourite places to shoot as Justin the owner is super welcoming and helpful and the studio itself has all the standard studio kit as well as stunning natural light and window to pose in.

Justin has collected some really lovely props and yesterday we made use of a large sofa for a classic art nude set. Whether you’re more experienced or just starting out on your photographic journey, the Millhouse is a great place to shoot with easy parking, an awesome

Cafe upstairs and a good sized studio space with plenty of backdrops to choose from.

I very much look forward to being back there tomorrow! Many thanks Justin for an awesome studio day :)

Today I had what I hope is the first of many shoots at the Millhouse Studio. I was greeted by Justin, the owner, and made to feel very home straight away.

The studio is well-equipped with a variety of spaces to shoot. The natural light is gorgeous and I loved posing in the windows.

There is a cafe upstairs serving excellent food and drinks, and parking is free and just outside the studio.

I love the feeling of being in a studio that is truly dedicated to creating artistic images and Justin has kitted it out well with a range of props and artistic objects.

I very much look forward to my next visit - highly recommended.

When I walked into the Studio my first thoughts were WOW, what a fantastic space. There's sooooooo much light it's brilliant, in fact for most of my shoot with the Stunning V, we used natural light and produced some stunning portraits. There's also an outdoor space that can be used to create some interesting looks as well if you wished.

The owner Justin is a super guy, very friendly and helpful. Happy to have a chat and discus ideas, but will stay well out of the way unless you want him. He has assured me that a section of wall that would make a brilliant rustic backdrop will be ready for my next shoot (yes I'm going back, and now Justin you're under pressure to do the wall ;-) )

He also downloaded all the images of the day to a computer he set up so V and myself could see the results of the day, AND he kindly charged up a spare battery for me as I made a newbie error and didn't check all my batteries.

So highly recommended, definitely going back, easy to find and access , although I didn't use it there is a very nice restaurant above the studio where the food smelt delicious (next time then).

Thanks Justin for a great day and being a great host. Just need to get the wall done...

Second shoot at Millhouse - again, Justin was really helpful in setting up to allow quick transitions between areas, and the natural light even on a cloudy day was beautiful. Plenty of lighting and background options.

Looking forward to working there again, and happy to recommend both Justin & the Millhouse.

I had my first shoot at the Millhouse Studio today, but it certainly won’t be my last. Before arranging a shoot there, Justin very kindly let me visit in advance to check the space would work for my planned duo shoot with Tillie Feather and Leon Lift. On having this first look around, I knew there would be so many great opportunities to create some fantastic images.

The studio has all the facilities you could want. Boxes to pose on, numerous lighting options - both strobe and continuous, lovely big windows for natural light, great textures on the walls and floor as well as paper backdrops. You really are spoilt for things to shoot. Justin was a great host, giving us a quick tour but leaving us to ourselves unless otherwise needed to help with a specific lighting set up. As a further draw, there is a great vege cafe upstairs for a post-shoot bite to eat.

This is a fantastic facility for photographers and models. I look forward to shooting there again soon.

I shot at the Millhouse Studio today with my partner LeonLift on a duo shoot together.

What a fantastic space - I love the rustic/derelict feeling in parts where the brickwork is exposed, the natural wooden flooring and stone. The big windows that let in natural light were so perfect for photography too.

Well heated & maintained. Ample opportunity for different shots. I think we shot 5/6 different sets in 4 hours & we could've definitely carried on for longer.

I can highly recommend the studio and Justin who is a lovely person, very friendly & approachable, he offered his help for lighting and setting up but remained in his own studio room whilst we were shooting.

I look forward to returning again another time I'm touring,

Many Thanks,

Tillie

What an amazing studio Millhouse is!

I got booked for a shoot by the studio owner, who by the way is a wonderful gent! The studio was amazing super quirky, plenty of space with multiple props also very well equipped! It’s clearly had a lot of thought go into the making of it and it’s paid off! I can’t fault the studio and look forward to returning at some point in the not to distant future.
