Matthew's interest in photography began while taking photographs for his high school yearbook. Later in life He started photographing wildlife for a university which ignited his passion for photography. He started photographing events, portraits, and landscapes. His photographic education is varied, from workshops on lighting and posing, to classes on black and white printing. He moved to London in 2007 and joined the London Camera Club where he has taken many workshops. He uses the studios of Gallery 1885 in Kennington for his studio portraits.

He has been inspired by many photographers some of whom include Edward Curtis, Bruce Weber, Mario Testino and has been greatly influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite art movement.
