James Jenkins

I have been involved with photography for over 50 years and regard myself as a reasonably competent amateur hobbyist. As you can see from my portfolio I range across many genres from child portraits, abstract figure images, formal architecture and both conventional and abstract landscape. In addition to these amateur (for me) subjects, I also professionally  produced video based training materials for health personnel which meant that I had fifteen years of developing both my stills and video skills

I am very keen on post-production processing and my favorite description of a camera is "a device for helping you to see". This suggests that photography makes a philosophical contribution to the development of human understanding of the physical world around us as well as reflecting on the human condition and relationships. Digital manipulation of images extends the artistic function of the photographer in this context

In my retirement, I should now like to develop my studio skills including figure photography and portraiture. I am physically disabled and can't go exploring wild landscapes any longer, but my physical limitations don't prevent me growing to a higher level in my art. I hope you like the abstract nudes in my portfolio all derived from intimate female close-ups.
