Studying how somebody's appearance can be transformed into something completely different has always fascinated me from a very early age. This has had a profound effect upon my working habits and learning styles; I am at my best when exploring, scrutinising and recreating all sorts of visual effects upon a human body, through the medium of make-up.

I flourish in opportunities to produce a visual experience by transforming a subject into an expression of my psychological drama. Perhaps because of this, the prospect of further work with prosthetics seems particularly appealing.

I find my natural flair for creative thinking and aptitude for working with my hands has amplified my previous results when doing beauty treatments. More often than not, this leaves me searching for more techniques to add to my creative arsenal. An example of this is when I took part in the inter-college competition for Level Three Hair and Beauty. In the film and Movies category, I entered a piece inspired by the Snow Queen from 'The Chronicles of Narnia'. My researches lead me to the idea to coat the model's lips and eyelashes in sugar, before applying the rest of the makeup, to create an illusion of frost. This work won me first place in the competition, and I display it proudly in my extensive portfolio.

Whilst working as a makeup artist for Keltic Rose Photography, I performed makeovers as part of a makeover photo-shoot model experience. This gave me a good insight into what is possible for an artist with skill, not necessarily with the most expensive products. I also realised that inter-mediating between the photographer and the client is somewhat an art in itself.

Even between a client's sessions, whether people realise it or not, the demands of the shoot and the moods and characters of people involved on the day required me to be very adaptive and dynamic.

This has encouraged developing myself to be flexible enough to ensure everyone is happy, and to understand that meeting these requirements means no less than one hundred percent effort on my behalf.

I believe my communication and interpersonal skills have been enhanced by participation in my regular arts and crafting group - Busy Hands. My family and friends in France and Spain has further broadened my perspectives, and has given me a good level of appreciation, intercommunication with and curiosity in other cultures.

In my portfolio, and my social circle, it can be seen that I have diverse interests, from fashion modelling to Henna art.

This variety in my home life gives me an understanding and a positive attitude that I believe is essential to any personal or professional relationship.

This is something I look to continue to apply to further my education and get the most out of my course and life at university.

Through a career in hair and make-up, I hope to produce stunning visual performances. I have always been most inspired by the works of Kevin Aucoin, and his talent to work wonders with clients. In ten years' time, I hope to emulate his success, and carry over this success into other areas of interest to me, such as prosthetics and makeup for performance.
