Taken in the autumn of 1989, this image depicts the head chorister of Chichester Cathedral Choir in a quiet moment of contemplation prior to his "retirement". The choir had, at that time, the smallest complement of any permanent choir in the UK, twelve boy trebles and six gentlemen, known as "Lay Vicars", two alto, two tenor and two bass.
For the photography purists amongst you the image was taken on Agfa Professional 1000 ASA medium format film on a Bronica ETRS with a 120mm lens, hand held, 1/60 second at f11. Processing by PRC Laboratory at Liphook.
The boy in question is believed to be the only boy treble during the twentieth century to have sung the top C in the Alegri Misereri every time he performed it.
