Studio Luminescence

We met John for the first time at our Burlesque event on April 14th.

John is a wonderfully warm and friendly person and immediately settled in with the rest of the attendees. It was a pleasure to meet him, share experiences and see how he shot the model within the sets. We were really happy with the results he shot throughout the day. We were really grateful he chose to make the journey over to us despite the considerable distance between his home and the studio.

He was respectful of the studio space, model and equipment used. His pre-comms were spot on and booking him onto the event was a breeze.

Genuinely a joy to work with - as a studio space we can happily recommend working with John from a group workshop perspective to models, studios and event organisers alike.

John - thank you again for making the journey over to us - it was a real pleasure to host you and we do hope that we will see you again sometime, despite the distance!

Fantastic photographer and wonderful person to work with!!!

I had my first shoot with John yesterday at my studio day at the Kiln. He arrived on time and was very well prepared for our shoot!!

I felt at ease from the moment that I met him. He was very kind, professional and easy to get along with!! He showed me the photos as we went along and it's left me really looking forward to seeing the final results!!

I really hope we get the opportunity to work together again in the future and I would highly recommend him to anyone considering working with him.

Basford Hurst Cottage Photography Location

John came to Basford this time to shoot with Kitty Dawson on her sold out studio day. It was so lovely to welcome John back to Basford, he's a really great guy and brings so much enthusiasm and inspiration to his shoots!!

John worked well with Kitty throughout the shoot and was always respectful of her as well as the location he was shooting in.

We would have no hesitation to recommend John and we look forward to seeing him again soon!! Thank you John!!

Ahhh what a lovely man - I thoroughly enjoyed my shoot with John... Our first ever shoot and it was on my first studio day at Basford Hurst.

We started off the morning outdoors in the woodland area, I found myself feeling comfortable, safe and creative in his presence and I truly LOVE what we created together.

Shooting such a mix of styles/genres in the different areas around the Cottage and Gardens.

Our conversations were equally so enjoyable too, I'd certainly be very happy to work with him again.

Pre comms with John were great and everything was organised swiftly and easily. John arrived on time with everything he needed. John is a wonderful person and incredibly easy to talk to, he is polite, friendly and completely respectful of the model and our location at all times.

Crossroads Studio

John’s first visit to Crossroads Studio after 2 previous attempts were thwarted by firstly power issues at the studio and John suffering from a serious injury the second time. Fortunately all was well this time.

John is a thoroughly nice guy. He is also a talented and experienced photographer.

Despite not having shot in a studio for a number of years (thank you covid) he was very knowledgeable about lighting and set ups.

John is chatty and respectful towards his models. He has some great creative ideas and gives direction only when needed to get a specific shot he wants.

It was a real pleasure to have him at the studio and John is very welcome to return anytime.

First shoot with John during my model day at Crossroad Studio.

John arrived in time and ready to shoot. His pre communication was great, he told me what he wanted to achieve on the day.

So we worked using a low key set up. Portraits, fashion and underwear. John was a joy to work with :) chatty and friendly. I had a great 2 hours. Images from back of the camera were looking lovely, can’t wait to see the final result!

I had an amazing shoot with John at Splash Point studio in Rhyl. I am very happy with our shoot as John created a great atmosphere and he showed up in a great mood so it contributed to taking the great photos and I really enjoyed our shoot throughout for all that time.

John is very polite and respectful photographer, he is easy going to come along with. We used different light settings and I do like that neon shoot ,it was really a cool experience for me.

MADEIRA 2021!!!!!!! A phenomenal few days with John, working the beauty of this stunning island during his slot on this Arts Voyage event... 🌟🤩🌟🤩

Can I also just add for a second - the sheer endurance from all angles/all involved for getting this trip to happen! The pandemic has been tough times for the running of events... The anxiety of it all/not knowing what is around the corner has understandably affected photographers in a number of ways and event prevented them from taking the opportunity to go on trips that they may have been super keen on doing before the madness... I have great sympathy - especially with good-hearted people who were wanting to do the right thing; this is absolutely where John comes into the picture! From the start of the "doom and gloom" he showed nothing but care and caution to every degree that was needed from a responsibility point of view, but he also never gave up on the trip! Despite it being re-arranged several times due to the powers that be placing various restrictions down here and there (which was exhausting!) He hung on in there, and for that - I am so gracious! Especially given the cracking time we had shooting one-to-one over the most creative few days. 🙏

John and I first worked together when he came up to my patch in Yorkshire for a fun location adventure. We hit off a rapport virtually instantly - which was what led to us chatting about the possibility of John joining on an Arts Voyage event! With the Madeira one (solo-exclusive one-to-one shooting slot) lined up, we exchanged a few emails - and boom! It was in the diary and we were looking forward to slaying locations with a bit more reliable sunshine than Halifax hehe! 😝 Because the trips are very location-orientated, and having seen John in action getting the best out of locations before - it really goes go without saying that when he finally made it to Madeira, he smashed every opportunity in front of him! And this didn't even change when his host/model received news that her missing cat had been found and went a bit off the rails/started draping over taxi cars during the street fashion set we did! 🤣 John was just super cool, the entire time! He was down-to-earth, easy going about where we went - but highly enthusiastic when we got there, down for all the crazy ideas and themes assembled for the trip, and also creatively inspired in his own photographic eye clearly as the shots we got where totally different and full of individuality compared to the rest of the shooting I did across other slots. John threw himself at it with full force and it really was a joy to see him at work/getting stuck into each moment and/or location. The images we achieved do the real talking to be fair - but it won't stop me rambling haha - John's fabulous photography has already been met with approval from the PurplePort world in the form of FPI's it would seem - but we were buzzing long before that happened by literally just looking at the back of the camera. 😁 There's something so brilliant about working together with another creative to make a shot come alive and then looking afterwards and thinking - yup! We did good! It's these high-five moments that make these trips special and rewarding for me.

So take my world for it - John has badges of honour for literally enduring all sorts! Scrambling over the most uneven terrain of rocks and steep-sided cliffs/hills, getting down amid very spikey/uncomfortable things growing out of the ground to get that killer angle, braving low-visibility meadows in the mountain tops full of curious cows and bulls, grappling with the light - which (like Halifax) did actually change quite frequently, avoiding getting washed away as he shot by the ever-so-savage waves that beat Madeira's shore all around the island... And not forgetting: keeping up with a bonkers-looney model trying to second-guess what on earth she'll do next! I mean; blinking heck! If a photographer can do all this - they can do anything! But dramatic tone of my writing aside: John has brilliant drive and a technical mindset to seize image opportunities when they happen. Nothing was too much for him - he worked and he worked across a phenomenal range of genres that we covered during our trip. 😃

Since John was booked onto an exclusive/solo trip - he was the only photographer present during his slot, with just myself as a lone host/model. It's a very one-on-one setting, and very important that you gel to insure that that days are a smooth, productive and positive transition. Well we certainly gelled (again!) but to be honest - we did better and had a ball! The chatter simply had no breaks - it continued throughout the whole 3 days... By the end of it I was definitely know as that nuts lass from Yorkshire, and John wasn't afraid to tell me either haha! We even made a waiter fan after one of the restaurant dinners -even he liked the vibe. :) As well as being the nicest company, super lovely to hang out with, John also (very importantly) has an extremely professional demeanour and approach to working with models. I can confirm that there was a perfect atmosphere of mutual respect from start to finish during our time together on the trip - this is very much in-line with my previous experience of working with John too. :) He is most certainly one of the good uns' - that I know for certain.

So despite my delayed reference due to a crazy end to 2021... Every last word is as honest as it reads. 💁‍♀️ I thoroughly enjoyed hosting John in Madeira - and would completely jump at the chance to do so again! I highly recommend him as a person/photographer as well... Watch this space for more of the pictures being shared around! :D

Splash Point Photo Studio

Lovely to see John again, and as before he had great pre-comms. Some people give off a great and approachable energy, and he definitely falls within this category.

He was also willing to be flexible as we debated moving his slot forward an hour to the potential benefit of the model should the day not fully sell out given we had a rogue hour that was eventually snapped up a day or so before.
