Nigel came to me for a few hours as I had offered my time so he could practice his latest skill level in Shabari with rigging techniques and perfect them. He found this very useful in applying the knowledge he had gained so far and came armed with rope and a reference book and was able to successfully complete his ties with minimal reference to the book. I have a newfound interest in this subject so was able to benefit too by trying my hand at my first tie under his instruction which went surprisingly well.

Nigel is always most thorough in his photographic work and this is true for his Shabari work and his desire to learn new skills. Photographs were taken of the end results for reference and I look forward to working together again very soon.

Loved the freedom of shooting with Nigel in his home studio recently, the space offers so many options with space and lighting, and the option to review the shots in the big screen as we go is SO helpful.

Despite being knocked back a bit by illness, Nigel was as patient and determined to get the best shot as ever, keen to experiment with interesting angles and poses.

Trying out shibari ties was fun - although not the best look for me, I learned a few basic ties for future shoots. Other shots from above look great, I'm glad we tried those out.

Images came back really quickly, and Nigel is open to discussion and suggestions about the best choices and editing options too. Nigel is great to talk to, kind, helpful and endlessly patient, keen to get the absolute best shot.

Always happy to recommend Appareil, and I look forward to working together with Nigel again soon!

Had my second shoot with Nigel last week and my partner joined me so as to add a little extra to some shots. As with our first shoot, Nigel was extremely organised and thorough and went through the ideas we had decided upon during our pre-comms which had been excellent as before.

The time flew by and many great images were produced which we are all very happy with. Needless to say more ideas are forming so we will be working together again very soon. Thank you again Nigel.

Just come back from a great shoot with Appareil today. Nigel was friendly, polite and completely professional at all times. He was careful to ensure that I understood how he worked, explained how the shots would be set up and lit, and made sure that I was comfortable at all times.

Although the day was very hot, the shoot went really smoothly - Nigel and his wife kept me well supplied with cold drinks and cake, as well as helpfully providing taxi service, making it really easy to choose outfits and props to suit a variety of themes.

Nigel's home studio is really well kitted out with everything needed for a wide range of shots, and he's well-practiced creating lots of different effects - skilled, meticulous and determined to get the right lighting and pose for every shot. The near-instant feedback from the big screen is great, and it was brilliant to be able to collaborate instantly on how the poses and themes should progress. Negative feedback about a look was recieved just as happily as a positive response, enabling us to work together really well.

Today's shots looked great on that big screen, and I very much look forward to receiving the images. We discussed further ideas, and I will certainly happily return for another shoot when time allows!

I would happily recommend Appareil to anyone, and I think that his careful style and detailed direction would particularly suit new models.

I spent a thoroughly interesting and fun day with Nigel today. We swapped plenty of messages beforehand and he followed it up with a phone conversation and was very keen to make sure all my questions were answered before we met. We covered plenty of technical shots today, very different style to those I already have. After each set we viewed them all on the large screen. At all times he was very professional, went to great lengths to ensure I had sufficient breaks and that I was totally comfortable throughout. I would absolutely recommend him to work with as I learned a great deal today. Thank you.

Such a fantastic shoot with Nigel at his studio, which was also great, we did a portrait shoot. Felt very welcome and comfortable. He was great at direction and also taught me so much! Clearly loves what he does and is so gifted at Photography. Very professional and has a lot of knowledge especially with lighting, was fun and exciting to play around with ideas. Can’t wait to see the final images. Highly recommend him! :)

Appareil and Susie initially exchanged a few emails to discuss the type of shoot we were both looking for and some possible dates. As this was going to be Susie's first shoot Appareil also explained how they typically worked. Susie found this very helpful and re-assuring and so decided to go ahead. On the day of shoot to we both communicated to confirm we could still make it. Appareil made susie feel very welcome and there was somewhere good to change. Appareil has an impressive studio with a wide range of lighting facilities and props. Susie was a little nervous to start but Appareil explained things slowly and did not rush. The shoot was very relaxed and fun. Appareil was prepared to spend time thinking through poses and by the end Susie was really enjoying it! Appariel also spent considerable time on post-production to give the images a creative edge. Appareil also understands the need for confidentiality and discretion. Susie was delighted with the results; they are as professional as any paid-for shoot. Thank you!

Shot with Nigel on Sunday, what a fabulous teacher he is. Yes had a great shoot, really enjoyed it couldn't fault. Was very professional and friendly so made it so easy. I feel like we both learned alot from it. I felt so comfortable & it was so easy to bounce off of eachother with creating the perfect image as we both knew exactly what we were trying To achieve. The studio Is. Very well equipped, the screen was great to be able to amend positions / lighting & the idea of the mirror was great.

Couldn't recommend more, thoroughly enjoyed.

Fantastic afternoon working with Nigel at his studio, great setting to work in gave me a tutorial before I started to shoot with Mimi, as we had to iron out a few things (issues with my camera) but was on hand and helpful. Extremely clear to direct instruction which helped me learn to try a create the look I wanted for my portfolio. The screen in the studio is a great touch as we could instantly review our shots as you never can see all the image from the back of the camera. Friendly, welcoming, great teacher and along with the clear and concise communication we had before the shoot he offered a lot of helpful advice. Would highly recommend him and his studio.

I had a shoot with Appareil today and it was absoulately great. I am so happy with all those pics and he made me feel really comfortable as I'm fairly a new model. At first I thought probably I wouldn't do any good but with His direction the pics came soo great n I started to feel like ok I do have a great looks n body. :-) n Appareil made it all soo nice n easy for me that I would love do more shoots with him n I for all the fairly new model my advice to u all don't miss the opportunity to work with him.

Worked with Nigel today for the fourth time, We did the shoot at my home using my kitchen and living room as we was practising body art paint shoot . Nigel arrived on time to shoot and he was very quick to set up. We had a very fun shoot chatting and laughing as well as producing some good images. Very Good communication before shoot, some very good art was created too. In all Nigel is a professional photographer and respects models levels. Hope to work with him again soon X Recommended X

Had a fabulous combined shoot/tutorial again with apparel on Friday 20th Feb 2015 and found i had happily managed to retained the information i had been taught from our previous tutorial session, which gave me extra confidence in a studio set up environment, and is testament to Nigel's fun relaxed teaching skills.

Nigel acted as my assistant & tutor giving me virtually free reign in the studio whilst guiding me with technical stuff, and making very useful, creative suggestions towards the whole shoot, building on my confidence of the use of indoor studio work.

I have other shoots scheduled with him in the coming weeks, and very much look forward to them.

Had my first 'Studio Lighting for Portraits' tutorial session with appareil on Friday and found it most informative, and enjoyable. I left having gained more confidence and skills for indoor studio shoots for the future.

The full morning was in a relaxed, freindly atmosphere and fun learning environment at the right speed of teaching to suit my needs. Not being the a fan of too much technical jargon, appareil broke it down into much easier to remember steps, helping me to identify each individual type of light & it's purpose 'Barn doors, snoot, Honeycomb, flashlights etc. He encouraged me to have hands on experience with physically setting up the various lighting systems, use of a light meter, then using all that i had been taught to do a short shooting session.

I very much look forward to further tutorials with apparel and hopefully collaborating on some photography shoots with him soon.

I'd definitely recommend him as a photographer tutor in the studio environment

Had a third shoot with appareil he is a fantastic photographer with a lot of experience he is very professional running through the concepts of the shoot ahead and always making sure I was warm and ok :) love seeing his photos any the images he creates and look forward to another shoot in the near future xxx

Great shoot today again with Appareil. He's very easy going and great with models of all levels of experience. I would recommend for any model to book a shoot, but if you're new or looking to try new levels you would be made to feel at ease here.
