Laurel Darling

Laurel once told me that a lot of photographers refused to work with her because they found her portfolio scary. I later realised, and told her that that was exactly one of the reasons why I felt so drawn towards her.

Having waited patiently for two years to work with Laurel, my chance came out of the blue just as I thought I had missed it. The first thing that struck me about Laurel when I finally met her was just how sweet she really was. She and I had so much to talk about, but so little time.

As I had always known intuitively, she turned out to be an incredibly versatile and wonderfully imaginative model who, as it soon turned out, would hugely inspire me on many levels.

I am so glad that I never gave up on Laurel, being that I had almost convinced myself that my dream of working with her had passed me by. Happily, she and I were to collaborate on a further four occasions before she emigrated to Australia in September 2017. Even though she has gone from our shores, I shall always remember Laurel Darling as being unbelievably infectious both as a model and as a person.

I would like to thank Zoe Rebecca John at Express Imaging in Cardiff for scanning and helping me select the photographs in this album. I also want to especially thank her for conceiving the idea and encouraging me to create the collages featured here and even suggesting the background colours.
