The Photographer

Updated 28th Jan – 2024

It’s been almost two years so time for an update I feel.

If you are thinking of working with me, please see the “The Photographer” album if you want to know more, it contains previous updates.

Briefly: I’m Adam, a better photographer than I was two years ago, I hope. Photography is still very much a love of mine but not a full time pursuit, unfortunately other more stressful tasks are needed to put food on the table.

That being said I have been lucky enough to pick up some paid commercial, event & sports photography work alongside some portrait commissions.

I don’t have time to shoot that often, it’s still about once per month and I like to mix it between 1:1, events and workshops. The process of learning a new technique or innovative approach is hugely motivating.

Now I have a few years of experience under my belt and having discovered an editing workflow that I’m happy with I am open to TFP work and would be delighted If you feel my work could add something to your presence. If this is something you are interested in please let me know and we can discuss specifics.

I get a huge amount of inspiration from looking at the great images here and will often add those to a collection as something to aspire to. I also keep a Pinterest board of ideas I would like to shoot so if any of those appeal, please do get in touch.

I may not respond to unsolicited messages that have clearly been sent en masses. I am open to messages where it is clear you have read my profile.

I can’t really shoot from home unless absolutely necessary, as there is still too much Lego. I live in an area of the country that has lots of outside options and there are a couple of studios nearby.

Thank you to all of the fabulous models, photographers and artists I have worked with thus far, your creativity is a constant source of inspiration.

P. S. I don't just shoot b&w, I love colour, just have a look at my albums. But for the moment, monochrome with a splash of colour is how I've set up my port.

Who: I'm Adam, a very amateur photographer who is just getting started in portraits. I have a technical day job and have never considered myself particularly creative in the traditional sense. Creative in that I'll find a way to solve a problem, but give me something to draw and you'll be lucky if you can distinguish my attempt from that of a particularly lazy toddler.

I try and keep active by swimming, cycling and running and have been known to do them all together, generally in that order.

Why: I've always had an interest in photography which started when a youth group with darkroom facilities opened near me whilst I was still in primary school. Having the ability to compose, take and process my own pictures was something that will always seem magical, even if some of the images weren't! It's always been a hobby for me and always will be. In recent years I have been getting shots of local and some national sports events, it's people's expressions that I find more interesting than the action taking place on the pitch or track.

I have found so many of the images on PP inspiring and anyone I have met or messaged have always shown support and encouragement.

What: As I'm just starting this journey into portraiture, getting experience across a broad range is important and am willing to learn from the knowledge that others share. My goal for this year is to try and complete one shoot/workshop per month. It doesn't sound a lot but, but with work, life and training, getting that done will be difficult enough.

I would be happy to partake in TFP work and would be flattered if you think I'm up to it but I don't have the time to produce multiple edits from a shoot in a short timeframe, about one a day would be reasonable.

For that reason I would expect most of my images to be sourced from models whom I pay, or my family who, on their good days, reluctantly indulge me.

Where: I'm based in the south east and short of Stacy Solomon coming around with her crew of cronies for an episode of "Sort your life out", the propensity for serious and life threating injuries caused by strewn Matchbox cars, PJ Mask figurines, bikes, scooters and all types of Lego would prevent a home shoot. So unless you want to shoot a toy commercial, all shoots would be studio or a location.
