to cull or not to cull?

The no. of images on my port keeps growing and I'm wondering if there's too many? I'm thinking about retiring some older (the old stuff is at the bottom) or underperforming images.
Is it worth the effort? What approaches do others take?

appreciate any nuggets of wisdom

Honestly, that’s one of the toughest and most personal questions you can ask, and it’s something only you can decide. I have way too many images in my portfolio and keep adding more every day. If I tried to narrow it down, choosing which ones to remove would be torture! Your work is fantastic, and I wouldn't know where to start in telling you what to take out. Every piece is worth viewing. 😊

I'd say a trim up would be a good idea - maybe push the older stuff into albums and take them off your main page.

One extreme approach is to create an album called "Everything", move all images to it, then challenge yourself to pull out no more than 10 to the main portfolio, perhaps to illustrate diversity, or to illustrate one particular aspect of your work.

My other suggestion would be to dispense with model-based albums, and go by subject or style instead, as I find that tends to be more useful when constructing a mood board for my next shoot.

Sensual Art you're helping me out here too.

I cull repeatedly. I take images off the main page and move them to albums, then later cull the albums into a private archive, then ultimately delete the ones in the archive. I think you have to ask yourself what is the point of having all those images on the main page? You don't need anything like that many to demonstrate your skills and range.

I do the 'All' thing too and do my albums as genres rather than models names, so the albums also don't take up a ton of real estate. Under performing (by the average views and loves I get) images after a month get removed from the main page.

Having too much is certainly a problem especially when viewing on a phone screen if someone just wants to get to your references. It's a fine balancing act of keeping everything accessible quick and easy.

First of all, your work is absolutely amazing. Genuinely you're incredibly talented.

I would cull, purely from the perspective is that it has less impact but theres so many images to scroll through, and also takes a while to access references.

Your work has simply got better and better so I'd pop some of the older pieces in a folder 😊

It’s really great to see such commitment and excellent quality work.

I scrolled down and opened a couple of images at random and they were really excellent.

But they will not have been your best or your personal absolute favourites.
and that’s a real shame especially for me.

So finding a way to show the work first that inspires you the most would be fantastic.

You are right. Your images are very high quality but there are way too many. Looking through your portfolio I see images that are very similar - not quite duplicates - also several images of the same model. Have a look through and allow yourself one - just one  - image of each model. See if that helps a bit. Then look for similar poses from different models; this might conflict with the one of each model rule but overall aim is to reduce the number of pictures in your portfolio. Again allow yourself just one of the poses. Place the culled images in a new folder called previous work. Hopefully sifting through the images with these two "rules" in mind will make the decision making slightly easier. Good luck !

Thank you so much for the kind words, Andy! I totally get it—narrowing down can be tricky, especially when you're attached to the work like I am :). Your portfolio approach of adding without removing seems to be a great suggestion, so maybe a hybrid might be my answer. 😊

Appreciate the suggestion, Steve!  Thanks for pointing me in that direction!
