Interested In Your Thoughts

Hi, all. If anyone has the time and inclination to look at my profile and share their opinion(s), I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I'm never quite sure what sort of impression I give people, or how my work is perceived so this could be educational.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mitch.

It’s a shame this group doesn’t get more views as it can be really helpful with feedback.

I had a read of your notes and viewed your images.

Or notes are short and concise and give a good understanding of what you are looking for.

Whilst you only have a few images, they cover quite a few styles, either in content or editing/ photography techniques. So they give a good visual idea of what you can produce/are looking to produce.

Unfortunately you suffer from ‘low reference syndrome’. Not a problem if you are paying models and work in a studio they are familiar with. A bit harder for TF or newer models.

thus is far from an insurmountable issue, so I wouldn’t change anything at the moment and just contact a few models for shoots and all should be good 👍

OK, here goes. Just what jumps out and hits me between the eyeballs!

The two low-key, what I presume are nudes, are very weak. Since they were added 4 years ago I presume it's a genre which doesn't inspire you to improve upon and I think it's likely that models will assume that too.

That leaves a bunch of what are essentially pretty faces. You mention story-telling in your notes but I don't think there's much evidence of it in your port currently, however images can definitely have merit without it.

Studio lighting varies between competent and confused. It could just be that you like to learn through experimentation which is cool if you can recognise what's portfolio-worthy and what's not.

I think your strongest shot is the studio grey-scale with glasses, it's just a shame you've caught the corner of the soft box so maybe remove it in PS or whatever you use.

I think your weakest shot (other than the nudes mentioned above) is the model pointing at the camera - focus is on her far eye leaving the near eye unsharp - this definitely doesn't work for me in this case.

Notes wise, I personally think your last two bullet points come across as a little abrupt and prescriptive, and that may prejudice how models interpret your personality. Perhaps reword them.

That probably sounds a whole lot worse than it really is. Good luck :)
