But like I said above, you need to consider it in the context of the suggestion which prompted it, namely of the problem where you want to reply to something with a side thought or observation which is pertinent to the comment you're responding to but off-topic for the post as a whole.
What if there was an "off-topic reply" button next to the current "reply" button, which would do all that for you, and let you simply enter your side thought without fear of it being buried for being off-topic?
Would you consider using it?

At best most people are half-arsed most of the time. Which is commonly sufficient.
But providing a facility for the extra buttock to be deployed does them no harm.
