Vauxhall new Frontera: same price combustion engine vs EV

Price parity between combustion engine cars and battery are a decade off yet surely? Not if Vauxhall have anything to do with it, released next month a new Frontera the same price, petrol or battery (£23k for both).

Cheaper running costs for the EV: 1/5 the price for fuel, minimal service requirements: once every 2 years cabin air filter, and once every 4-5 years new brake pads. The EV will be cheaper by more than £15,000 to run over a 10 year period, almost the cost of a car.

I don't think improving the Frontera as much of a challenge, even Dacia would be in with a fighting chance and win. I'm sure the Fiat Frontera ev will be an improvement.

I wish I had 23k for every Vauxhall I've pushed over the years. And those EV's weigh a ton too...

I long for the day that there is a strong market for retro modding older, yet lighter era ICE vehicles. You could be IN CHARGE of everything you put in.

No firmware updates that effect the whole vehicle.

You could put in the amount of batteries you wanted (to match the range required and, for me, a home charging set up from solar and home batteries).

There is an increasing irony and unease between my love for tech and gadgets (+ sometimes early adopter bravery) ... and my hatred of being 'locked in / controlled' by brands or devices that I cannot service / upgrade / repurpose.

But if you read the linked article it's parity between a hybrid and a BEV, not parity between a BEV and a purely ICE vehicle.

It is a mild hybrid (48V), so tiny battery and there for token efficiencies when braking to set off, your battery drill can come as 48V now...EVs typically have 400-800V of battery.

Interesting taking an in-depth look at what's going on in the Chinese home market in respect of the modular approach, what's available etc. The mod scene is something totally different, bespoke and costly at present.

These guys say they can do 42 different vehicles.

A quick Google suggests that there are at least half a dozen places in the UK that can convert Land Rovers [probably really easy due to the existing ground clearance and certainly for S1, S2, S3, FC, uLW and 90/110 Defenders, they were all designed for quick component swap-out.

The new, Chelsea taxi ones, probably not.
