Jeez Redundancy then job searching is soul draining...

What a draining couple of months where everything was put on pause... At the end of July, my role was made redundant after being with the company for seven years as an Account Director.

What a rollercoaster of emotions from feeling inadequate (although you know it's not personal it's hard not to take it that way) to all the disappointment of job searching and then dealing with:

- No response at all
- Ghosting
- Generic "Unfortunately on this occasion we decided not to progress you to the next round"

I feel extremely grateful to have gotten an interview and offer which I accepted and start early next month!!! Now it's time to book a shoot to celebrate and get back to normal haha.

Congrats on your new role.  And a shoot sounds great therapy

Tough times.

The US company I consult for is cutting jobs by 3%. About 700 people. Not a lot of work coming out this year.

Well done for coping and finding a new place.

That's good news, and well done for getting through it; it can really make you question your whole identity!

My last period out of work due to redundancy was 10 months, when I was almost 50.  You're right, it's draining in just about every way.

Well done on getting through it!

Well done on finding a new job. That dreadful expression "On this occasion..." took me back to my own experience of redundancy back in the 1990s. I thought I was never going to work again, however hard I tried.

I've been out of work since April. I should really start looking for a new job 😂

Congratulations on getting through (relatively) unscathed - and good luck in your new role.  I empathise having had my position made redundant late in my career.

I took a different route to you. As I was fairly comfortable by then and it gave me the opportunity to go self employed, something I would never have considered from the comfort of my well-paid job.  I was (to my own astonishment) fairly successful ‘out on my own’.  So much so that I still have two clients who will not let me retire, retire.

Anyway as someone once said to me “Everyone should be made redundant once in their career.  It’s good for the soul…….and for the bank balance.”
