Really don't understand the need for the new tab labels (1 tab or 2 tabs). It just looks stupid and pointless and very annoying. Can't find a way to get rid them or revert back to pre update.

What version of Brave are you using? I hardly ever use it, but I just cranked it up out of curiosity. Latest version for my OS (Debian 13 "Testing") is v1.70.117. The tabs seem to be behaving pretty much as normal. And the only settings related to tabs are in the Settings > Appearance > Tabs section. These settings are-

  • Use vertical tabs
  • Show tab search button
  • Disable mute function in tab speaker icons
  • Tab hover mode
  • Show memory usage on tab hover preview card

None of which seem to replicate the exact issue that you describe. Though I am wondering whether adjusting the "Tab hover mode" might address your problem?

It seems as if it is an Android and Mobile update from Brave ason Windows it hasn't changed.

Unfortunately, without knowing exactly what version of Brave and Android you are using, it is somewhat difficult to make any meaningful suggestions. But FWIW, this morning I installed latest stable Brave (v1.70.117, Chromium 129.0.6668.59) on an Android device (Android v9 build/PPR1.180610.011). Unless I am missing something obvious, the tabs seem OK to me.

A couple of screen-grabs, you might find helpful...

This is what I get on Android 14 on a Lenovo Yoga Tablet from yesterday's Brave update.

I still don't know what version of Brave you are using? And the most recent update that I can find is dated: 2024-09-20. But no matter. Seems you are using tab groups. The numbers refer to the number of tabs in each tab group. If you close all your tab groups and create all new tabs, without grouping them, then the numbers should all go away. Though obviously you'll loose your grouping too. Apart from doing that, in the absence of any more information, if you wish to continue using this version of Brave, then I'd say you're probably stuck with the way its tabs are presented.

If you really want a previous version of Brave, you may download its Android installer package (*.apk) from APKPure or similar. APKPure currently lists 29 earlier versions of Brave, in addition to the current version. Once you have downloaded the appropriate *.apk, uninstall your current version of Brave and install the older version using the *.apk you just downloaded. I would add that IMHO, I consider it unwise to do so. Security in a browser is much more important than its aesthetics. But here's the link anyway... :-)

waist.it Finally managed it. I have never set up Tab Groups but the Update obviously turned them on. I Followed this:

Enter brave://flags into the browser's address bar and search for “Tab Grid Layout” and “Tab Groups.” Click on the drop-down menu next to each indicator and change their values from “Enabled” to “Disabled.” Finally, restart the Brave browser.

Then closed and opened. It is version 1.70.117. 20th Sept. Thanks for the help. Back to editing.

You're welcome. Glad to hear it. :-)
