But does anyone know how I can influence my YouTube recommendations? I just keep getting suggested the same old stuff. I try watching some new stuff to get new recs but it's not working. I've also subbed to a few new people and likes a few different videos that aren't my usual style/bag etc #help

I’ve found that if you also the “notify” bell, as well as subscribing to channels, that then seem’s to recommend things similar. But it does seem to be sporadic and only suggest subjects I recently watch and tends to forget things I’ve watched months back.
Time to consider a different strategy perhaps? I never rely on automated recommendations. Not that I'm likely to get many because my "YouTube history" is switched off, all my systems have /etc/hosts hostile server blocking, and my browsers always delete cookies between sessions.
I prefer to be more pro-active and actually search for stuff that interests me rather than rely on what Google thinks I like. Youtube's built-in search engine is quite good in its own right. And DuckDuckGo's video search engine is pretty good too - searching across other video sites such as Vimeo and DailyMotion.

Start a new 'Channel' it gives you a fresh set of recommendations, then go and subscribe to all the things you're interested in. I keep different channels for different interests. That keeps the recommendations focussed on what I want.

I seem to get a lot of what interests me, but in honesty, I don't know why. I usually search for what I'm interested in, so that must impact recommendations.

Joining this group is as easy as viewing the group and then clicking 'Join group' near the top right.
In settings, you can clear your history. Immediately afterwards, you will have no suggestions. It can be useful if it has been suggesting a lot of stuff that you don't like.
