New iPad thoughts

I’m enjoying not having to take a work laptop every time I go away for a weekend. That’s worth the extra cost for me, but I’m not typical. Plus I can get my company to pay for it.

I am a web developer by day and I can really (if I have to) get by with an iPad and the little MS bluetooth foldable keyboard; ideally with a Raspberry Pi 4 as a sidekick, though I am generally reliant on internet access. I freelance so going on holiday is really a challenge anyway but if I travel, I just take the iPad. I am lucky enough to have a USB-C iPad Pro, but I could get by with the Air or the Mini.

With only a little tinkering I can have most of what I need on the iPad -- including the essence of Visual Studio Code -- and it's a really incredibly useful device to have when travelling.

I have the 256GB Mini 6, and an old Samsung S10 phone which takes a 1TB micro SD card. Combination does most things a laptop an do.

The newest Ipad air is ace I have edited full 4k videos on it pretty seemleesly. It comfortably runs most editing softwares available in the app store. Incredible battery life too I think mine lasts the entire day when in constant use if on standby or I am just using it for white noise at night I can easily get 4-5 days out of it. I went upto liverpool a month ago to work and it lasted the full 2 days I was away.

Thanks for all the high end tips Folks, but I'm just too cheap. In the end I was seduced by the £309 for the brand new basic iPad from John Lewis. it's a huge step up from my failing old iPad 3 with its obsolete O.S., snail-like speed, and extremely glitch prone operation.  I'm easily pleased so I love it. :-)

Never pay for stuff you don’t need….     More important things to do with the money.

Still happily using my 2012 Thinkpad.   :)

Very happy with my used 2015 T450 laptop (£250) and used 2012 Dell U2412M (£170) monitor for it. :-)
