Basal cell carcinoma.

I'm a big Jinny Ann when I have to see a medic...

Finally got an appointment after waiting 6mths for something i have had about 2 years

(although I already knew what it was)...

They are referring me back for a biopsy first (just to be sure to be sure) as it is right above my eyebrow and will likely leave some scarring and potentially change the shape/length of one of my eyebrows (and finish off what's left of my stunning looks and modelling career)šŸ¤“

Don't know how long i will wait or what to expect...

Any pearls of wisdom?

Yes I have actually. I was just sitting here admiring your drawers.

I am of course referring to your kitchen drawers, not your undercrackers ... or am I? ;-)

I imagine this is going to depend very much on where you are, waiting lists, etc. I'm in Essex.

But my experience: GP appointment for something below my eye, she referred me to a dermatologist. Appointment at the hospital about 3 weeks later. Dr there looked at it and said I needed a biopsy. That happened 2 weeks later (painless at the time, a small stitch for a week). She said one of two things would happen: either a phone call 2 weeks later with an appointment with a plastic surgeon (if malignant) or a letter 5 weeks later with the all clear.

What actually happened was I got a letter three weeks later saying that I had to see the dermatologist again three week after that. No idea why at the time.. Then a week after that saying it was benign. The hospital appointment was about 2 mins - she had another look and said all was fine.

So, from first phoning GP to end about 10 weeks. At no time was I particularly worried. It may not have been malignant and, if it had been, I understand BCC is unlikely to be a serious problem if caught relatively early and removed. (I am not a doctor though, at least not that sort)

Good luck with this:)

This doesn't exclude much. Was it your toe? Glad everything was ok in the end. (y)

My beloved has Chronic Lymphocitic Leukaemia (CLL).  Average life expectancy 12 years.  She was diagnosed in 2006. (Do the maths!). In November last she had a lump in her mouth.  Dentist said OMG! Referred her to an oncologist.  Appointment 10 days.  After appointment scan appointment 10 days.  At scan bloods taken, sent to oncology.  Thenā€¦zip..nadaā€¦rein ne vas plusā€¦for five weeks.  Shit!  Beloved (a retired OT) says ā€œPhew!ā€ā€¦ā€¦if everything has slowed down there is nothing to worry about.  And so it came to pass.  Monitoring is back to 3mths from a yearā€¦but otherwise everything A okā€¦..except of course there is no cureā€¦.l

Hope things turn out same for you Dee.  As my beloved ( a fellow health professional) says we are all positive realists.  Stay well.

No pearls of wisdom, but plenty of supportive thoughts.

Hope you get it sorted quickly.

I was supposed to have one cut out of my thigh 2 years ago and finally got the appointment for the end of this month (May).

This is not he first one I have had and have a feeling it won't be the last. The small ones I have had are not noticeable any more so I hope this will be the same for you.

Will be routing for you...

I'm sure you will be as beautiful as always after the BCC is removed. I have known other people who have had a bcc in a similar position and to look at them you would never know.

I've had three 'procedures' as my local hospital calls them. The first was about eight years ago for a bcc on my left cheek. I had a biopsy and even photos were taken. Since then I have had two more. One on the other cheek and one on my back. They didn't bother with biopsies for these and just removed them.

I have scars from the ops but they have faded over time. After the second op it felt uncomfortable and itchy so I went back to the hospital and the surgeon injected the scar with something which made it heal better.

The doctors always ask 'do you work outside a lot?' But I never have, though as a child I always played in the sun without suncream. Happy memories of holidays in Bangor in the 50s and 60s.

Nowadays I never go out without a hat and as soon as it gets warm I spray on the suncream.

I wish you well Dee x
