Boris Becker jailed for trying to hide assets following bankrupcy

Everyone,

How Boris Becker has fallen since his great Wimbledon victories in the 1980s.

Strange how some crimes are deemed worse than others when they are similar. Becker hides a million or so from the authorities and gets two and a half years. If he hid the same amount in tax evasion he would receive a amnesty and a sweetheart deal from HMRC. Back in the 70s avoiding the same amount in tax would have got you a jail sentence, avoiding tax now is actually encouraged and facilitated by the government. Probably because government ministers and their families avoid tax. (I’m not talking about legal ways of avoiding tax, that’s not actually tax avoidance. Tax avoidance is using the law as it wasn’t intended and the government could hsve HMRC come down heavy on that) But Boris has sinned and now he has no money so he is like the rest of us, undeserving of spevial treatment.

Something to ponder for all those middle-aged male PP'ers who yearn for the high life, & picture themselves walking down the street with their arm round a gorgeous super model who is less than half their age. 😜

I wonder how long it will be before he receives the "Dear John" letter?

This man is the king of bad decisions and self destruction. He's also an alcoholic (which you can easily tell from the excessive redness and puffiness on his face) so jail might help him to get sober and give him time to think. I know many people whose life was on a down spiral and jail saved them. I strongly believe the judge is doing him a favour.

The man has a story of drugs and alcohol.

When you spend more than you make. At least he can say he lived it but not a nice place to be.

Annual income 20 pounds, annual expenditure 20 pounds ought and six, result misery."

Okay I'm mocking, but I've always been a fan of his.

Yes, I can't argue about jailing Bozo. The sooner he leaves Downing Street the better. The only worry is , who will replace him ??

And when he comes out he can team up with Statler again......

You are confusing tax evasion….Boris’s crime, with tax avoidance.  The latter is legitimately organising your affairs in a tax efficient way.  Many, many posters on here, many , many Labour supporters and anti-Johnson and his Tories will have set up to be IR 35 compliant companies to avoid PAYE.  If you argue that these facilities should be closed down for everyone, I agree.  But at the mom they are legal.  Boris’s EVASION is NOT.  And as you say he should have the book thrown at him.  If someone blew a safe and got £2.5m they would be in jail for 10;years.  Boris should serve AT LEAST his full term.  I hope he does, the dickhead.

Carlos Tax avoidance was a crime in the 70s, prople went to prison for it. The Tories under Thatcher made it legimate. It is still technically a crime but the HMRC don’t act Upon it.

Just so we know what we are talking about, avoidance is not using legal forms of tax efficiency but using tax law in a way it wasn’t intended. The first accountants to do this were the accountats of the Beatles and they ended up in prison. This is why the Stones ended up im France in tax exile because was the only way to avoid tax.

Osborne in the 10s then effectively gave tax evaders amnesties and sweetheart deals claiming HMRC would get more money that way. Other European countries prosecute and imprison tax evaders, the UK treats it as less than a parking fine. It’s like complimenting thieves on their thievery.

An ordinary person diddling the state of a few hundred quid would have their faces hit the back wall of a prison cell. Rob the state of millions and you are a hero. It’s no wonder this government flaunts its corruption and seems rather proud of it.
