Hartleys thanks. I’ve had a quick dekko and it definitely seems they have ‘opportunities to improve’ 😂.

My question was simply based on the assumption they were / are claiming to be especially suitable for photoshoots (as opposed to a few days away) hence an obvious subject for here.

Definitely won’t be on my ‘must visit’ list

One of those where it's important to read the most recent reviews, not the "top reviews".

OriginalSin definitely worth the scroll for the comedy factor 🤣🤣🤣

We’ve not stayed there, but have been in a few times in 2023 and 2024 for food, drinks, and boat hire (we stayed not far away). There was a marked deterioration in every aspect of the place between last year and this. The first year the food was actually pretty good, despite the Fawlty Towers vibe. This year they just didn’t seem bothered at all. I would recommend visiting The George in Inveraray, which is probably the nearest town on the banks of neighbouring Loch Fyne - food is great and their rooms are full of character and would be superb for shoots, and there’s a fantastic little whisky shop down at the other end of the street. Shame about the Portsonachan Hotel, it could be fabulous but sadly seems to trade purely on its location, which luckily for them is a bit special.

We stayed there as a family in 2017, and my parents came along too, had the Best time – very fond memories, particularly the food was very very good. Outstandingly beautiful in that area.

Yes it was a bit shabby around the edges, but we looked beyond that and made a truly fabulous break away. As I recall my dad had seen the deal on Groupon, and our expectation was super low – so we were pleasantly surprised, and it was a super bargain.

So for me, very very sad to hear it’s further decline, and really hope the place as a future.
