What kind of Group Shoots do you attend?

I tend to shy-away from shooting in large groups - too impersonal for my liking. My group shoots are generally smaller groups, mostly people I know already, either in my own studio - which is quite small 24.6m² (264 ft²) - or in a studio or similar environment belonging to someone I know. I generally try to provide a model to add to the pool.

A lot of group shoots now have limited numbers e.g. 6 at most. It's the club nights that are a bit of an unknown as anyone can just show up

I'm located in Southern California, and there's at least half a dozen group photoshoot events available... huge street meets... cosplay characters... fashion events... bikini shoots... extreme makeup events... airshows and carshows with models... you name it. What are some of the most popular events in your region?
In the UK, theres so many variations of group shoots. Ranging from £30 to £300 to £3000 These can be anything from a couple of hours to a full day to several days (even abroad) Some are one model some are two or several. Because pretty much the whole of the UK is reachable same day there's a lot of choice.
For me it has to offer value for money whatever the cost, particularly if the venue is a location that would just be impossible to shoot in 1-2-1 as the cost to hire would be out of totally out of budget. Also is there a theme or is the attraction the model(s)
A lot of themed group shoots are getting very expensive now, and I'm not sure they offer true value for money in terms of shooting time or getting results out of it I'd be happy with, especially if lighting is out of your control because a number of these now get sponsored by various brands attempting to flog their kit.
I will however use studio group shoots as a cheeky way to introduce myself to models or even studios on the cheap with no pressure to produce any decent results. If I like the studio or the model, I know I can rely on either for a future 1-2-1 shoot and the type of results I might get.
Whatever the cost I generally avoid ones that don't advertise the model(s) anymore, especially those that are half/full day regardless of the cost.
If it's 4 hours+ long and cheap I'm not expecting full time models, but either way, I value my time potentially much more than I do cash and you tend to get models chasing you for images back despite having paid regardless of how cheap it was, which puts on pressure to deliver images, and potentially images I wouldn't personally have wanted to put out there myself if I wasn't happy with the results. I prefer quality over quantity, and I think some of the part-time/newer models are just happy to post any crap.

waist.it But you came to a small group shoot at our house & I think you liked it. Hoping we'll do it again some time. :-D
We have NOT measured the square footage of our home studio but it's smaller than yours LOL. 🤣

For me if I go on a group shoot the first consideration is getting access to a location I couldn't afford on my own. Second consideration is model to photographer ratio, needs to be at least 1 to 1 - not a fan of the papparazi style shoot with 20 photographers and one model.

Group shoots don't suit me as the strip my creativity, I get similar images to others. I don't have control over lighting because others are using it. There is also the lack of rapport with the models because everything is rushed and there is no time to discuss ideas. I did one, never again. I like to be a lone wolf.

Yours was exactly the sort of shoot I meant Tim. Very relaxed, very enjoyable. Love to do another. Do another at mine too if you like? :-)

Oh, and I'll bring my little laser measuring gizmo with me next time if you like? It's SI metric only I'm afraid but it's accurate to within a few millimetres, apparently :-)

Interesting convenient and cheap ones. Recurrent ones.
Those are axes rather than just the interest - I'll go further and spend more on one with a particular interest and feel inclined to support ones I could walk to.
Going back to a place, theme, model, etc is interesting in one way, and the chance of newness in another way.
The organiser matters a bit as well.

I regard them as a creativity challenge to deliberately get something different:
