Are Games Killing Groups?

Simon Pole you said that you hover over the title. You said that you didn't know whether that worked on a mobile. I said it didn't. There is no "hover" on a mobile.
Ah right, I don't use PP on a mobile unless I have no other option.

Whilst Games certainly dominate the Groups, I'm not sure that culling or otherwise changing them would necessarily encourage discussions in the other Groups. Perhaps an alternative question would be to ask what could be done to enliven those other Groups?
One thing does occur to me - ie prevent posts from going into tiny member-created groups when they would be better served in mainstream groups.
Examples:
1. 5 months ago a separate group for AI discussion was created. Okay it has over 2000 members but thats a fraction of site membership. Since its creation the few pists certainly seem to have had minimal interest. Would they have got more if they were posted in general chat? And why shouldn't they be in general chat?
2. We have a member above complaining:

No one wants to get into image critique in a photography website where we are supposed to be sharing among peers
- I will INVITE CRITIQUE and no one responds.
Had he used the mainstream single image critique group he probably would have got a decent response. Unfortunately he asked for critique in his own newly created group which still has only 4 members!
Note to that member - you may like to try again using the official group.
3. A few groups created in the last year that might have lead to worthwhile threads had official groups been used
https://purpleport.com/group/internationally-published-model-from-the-north-west/
https://purpleport.com/group/rates/
https://purpleport.com/group/payment-1/
4. And why is this a separate group? Posts on chaperones are likely to be of general interest.....not just to 88 members
.https://purpleport.com/group/chaperones-pros-and-cons/
Actually I'd have thought almost any member-created group which lacks an image gallery could be catered for by the official groups. Thus enlivening the main groups a bit. But admittedly probably not by much more than that.

Personally I don't think so. I have zero interest in most games. But without them I suspect the forums gadget would seem depressingly inactive.

I think it's true that the "post your own..." should be separated from the "post from the previous poster" type games. I've said this before, but the idea gained little traction.
I have nothing against the "post your own" type of posts, but I generally hide them from my feed so I don't see them. I feel that they're very much a write-only place, with few people ever doing anything more than adding their own image, so are basically doing the same as the recent images and the shoutbox.
Broadly I agree.
I'm not sure I quite agree where to draw the line between the two types. I like the Post Something Similar game for example because it involves a bit of thought even though the result is posting an image of your own.
I've also sometimes wondered if there would be any merit in having a games gadget ie any image posted to a game would also appear in the gadget. giving the image a bit more exposure. But its an idea I'd only like if it could be applied selectively ie somewhere along the lines of your thinking.

There was a call for it to be created. It's up to the members of it to make it a success, but to those who are not interested (and were getting triggered when yet another AI-related topic was posted) it keeps it hidden away from them.

Much the same rationale as the AI group, actually: it keeps the topic "out of sight" of those who don't want to see.

+1 - otherwise we might as well just have one single group and dump everything in it?

2000 is probably the lions share of the active members though.
If I had to take a wild guess I'd say 3 in 4 model accounts are inactive with photographers probably 1 in 4. Inactive in this case hasn't logged in for a month.

Perhaps groups like those should be turned into official groups. They would then appear by default, helping to "enliven" them and the group discussions gadget, but members could unsubscribe if they wish.

It's fortunate that you aren't a betting man.

Personally I think the games group should be separated out into its own functionality allowing rules and an image picker. But I deal with them distracting me by not joining that group at all.

It's not killing Groups. It's probably the only groups where you don't get put downs and told to move on, or told that the subject has been flogged to death.
I have so many things I want to discuss on general chat, but I've been bitten every time I post and so I choose not to get involved in much.

I really don't understand what the issue is....they are games. Some play occasionally, others play more often. Yes sometimes you struggle to find a decent image in previous posters port, easy to just find something else to play. If you don't like a particular game start another genre/type yourself. If you don't like a particular game turn it off, don't like games, turn them off, don't like someone who plays games, turn them off.....don't like PP....leave. Some people play the games repetitively, so what, get a grip they might just be enjoying themselves....now I know we can't let that happen....
It's a game ffs it's of no importance other than to entertain and distract from the nonsense in other repetitive threads like....Chaperones, my model didn't show up, travel expenses, when does a shoot start, the search function doesn't work, proof of ID, there are are only models with tattoos, there aren't any models with tattoos,....and all that bollocks.
I'm going to write to the Met office and complain about the weather, they need to sort that out....
