I'm waiting for a model to say how much their lingerie/shoes cost ...  :-)

On a recent shoot with two well-known models, I was amused to realise that their lingerie (matching) probably cost more than my camera.

I’m still flabbergasted by the cost of public transport for models that don’t drive. Or the inconvenience of getting between major destinations thanks to the good Doctor Beeching, who definitely wasn’t in the pay of the road construction industry ;-)

You usually find that the less of it there is, the more expensive it is!

Unfocussed Mike cant comment on other manufacturers, I shoot Sony (a7iv and second body is a7ii) but from a perspective of both sides of the lens I totally agree with your analysis there.

I foolishly suggested for a recent shoot plan that we could get something from Agent Provocateur for exclusivity, then quickly realised my knowledge of their pricing was about 20 years out of date. Thongs for the price of a Sachtler tripod. :-)

Maybe used Canon 6D mk 1 (£300 with warranty) + EF 24-105 f4 IS (£300 or less.) That leaves £400 for some lighting and modifers.

or maybe in Nikon Nikon D610/D750 + 24-85 VR or 24-120 f4VR .  I'm a D3/D3s fan myself but that's way too old & heavy and low megapixels for most tastes.

A few years back I bought manual focus Nikkon Pre-AI 35/2.0 and 105/2.5 Nikkor lenses to use on my Canon RP.
Big shock to realise I could probably have shot with just those two lenses for the last 40 years.
Of course, they cost about half my yearly income when new (I was a student).

Had I wasted lots of money....   of course.
So I went and bought the 55/3.5 Micro-Nikkor to cheer myself up.
Just think of all the money I saved compared to the new price   ;)

On a serious note, I did shoot with just Canon FD 35/2.0 and 135/2.0L lenses for a few years in film days.

Honestly, for £1k I'd be looking at a reasonably modern phone and the best continuous light you could get with the remaining budget.

I recently bought a Sony zv e10 new £499, some lenses 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.2, and a tilt and shift 50mm f1.4 all new total cost £260 a ringlight £35 new, used hp laptop £180...if you can't knock out some images with that lot, you might as well take up knitting.

I`ll borrow whatever kit i need from all my friends cause i got so many friends with a ton of gear :-D
I consider a phone + phone subscription to be a primary living need (i.e along with gas, electricity, water, a roof over your head) so i don't even count that.

I would use whatever brand's free RAW editor for RAW editing I.E NX Studio for Nikon, X-RAW studio for Fuji etc.
I would use a free software like Fotopea or GIMP for retouchign (aka Dodge & Burn)

Computer ? Borrow that too. Seriously the amount of tech floating around in my friend group could power a small town :-D

Terrible idea!

Then you've got the same kit as all the young female influencers.
Not only are they more agile (able to get into interesting angles), quicker reflexes, fresh prespective - often just plain excellent as well!

Far better to have a big old camera and compete with the big old male photographers.

;)
