Fujifilm X-T5 - which lens for portraits?

I'm thinking of jumping from Nikon to Fujifilm, and was wondering if any photographers here use the X-T5 for portraits and, if so, which lenses they rate?

I'm looking at the Viltrox 27mm 1.2 or 56mm 1.7. Shooting a mix of indoors with strobes and outside with natural light/reflectors. Any thoughts?

The 75mm F1.2 slightly longer FOV equivalent about 105mm is excellent.

Viltrox 27mm f1.2 and 75mm f1.2 for best bokeh performance = very hard to beat, especially for the £.

My XF 35 f1.4 is a special lens, depsite being one to stick with AF-S focus (slower).

Zoom wise ... I'll never sell my XF 50-140 f2.8 & the XF 16-55 f2.8 is prime quality too, if I am not using my XF 56 f1.2.

So much choice now with both Fuji and third parts lenses.

I shoot on an XT3 however I think for what it is worth:

I have the XF 60mm which is sometimes a little too long if indoors and space is limited. Focusing takes ages on auto as it hunts so I usually manually focus with this lens.

XF 56 f1.2. I have used and probably the best as it has a large aperture for shooting outside.

XF 90mm F2 would be my choice for outdoors or XF 50-140 f2.8 for a bit more flexibility.

I think the 27mm even on a crop would be too wide for my tastes.

I just moved from Fuji. The 56mm 1.2 is great and the 90mm f2 is awesome.

I had the Viltrox 75mm and it’s the best bokeh for Fuji in my opinion.

Viltrox 75mm f1.2 would be my suggestion if you have the space. I'm tempted to get one for use on Sony FF in apsc mode or on actual apsc body. I have a Viltrox 16mm f1.8 it's as good as it gets in the budget, fab in FF or apsc.

Fuji users have a wealth of great portrait lenses available.  Fuji lenses themselves are superb.  I shoot every where from 35mm to 135mm FF equivalent for portraits and there are examples in this range on my portfolio, increasingly in the 35mm to 50mm FF range for location.

For the Fuji lenses:

56mm f/1.2 R produces great images.  I used mine for years and some of the most loved family portraits were taken with this lens on various bodies.  Example on PP:

Newer WR version I found to be better (difficult to quantify) with AF.  Important when shooting wide open with razor thin DOF (think f/1.8 full frame equivalent).  Example on PP:

90mm f/2.0 is just a beautiful lens for headshots.   The focal length is long however (135mm equivalent) which limits it due to working distance.  Example on PP:

I would watch out for the upcoming announcement Fuji is due to make on a new sensor size.  If they announce full frame it could have an impact on the APS range going forward.  But I love mine (also use Nikon FF). Note Maryna is not paid by Fuji but probably should be

There is a bit of speculation about a "new" Fuji sensor size, the 'drift' of most of the rumblings ( though they are all just rumblings) I've seen  are tipping a fixed lens "MF" sort of camera a la 645  film rangefinder of old.

This makes most sense to me, if Fuji went FF unless they picked an existing mount like the relatively rare 'L' mount they would have to be manufacturing a whole new line of lenses, or make the mount able to adapt other lenses eg Canon EF, Nikon F, even Fuji GF (!) or PERHAPS some FX lenses MIGHT cover a larger circle, but the very oblique 'stretched' incidence angle on a FF sensor would have big problems with vignetting and edge performance, imo that line of production would be a potential money pit.

The Fuji 645 was relatively popular both models the 'standard' and 'wide' versions, A niche digital quasi replacement could sell enough ( depending a lot on cost) to be worthwhile.

I currently use the Viltrox 33mm F1.4 XF, Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2 R, and Viltrox 85mm F1.8 on my X-T5. They are all really amazing! I would like to pick up a 23mm F1.4 and a 75mm F1.2 eventually.

The Fuji 56mm was pretty much permanently attached in the studio to my XT when I shot Fuji just a beautiful quality to the images under studio lights.

Get yourself a trip to London and go play with all this gear at the Fuji Flagship store in Covent Garden - take a memory card, I'm sure you can arrange a trial too and go shoot for the afternoon, or at least shoot a buddy up stairs in their gallery

I shoot with an x-t3. Just worth pointing out that Fuji removed the pins for a portrait grip on the T5. Deal breaker for me, hence no upgrade. Just in case that's important to you.

The 56 f1.2 is ideal if your camera has IBIS.

I've got a Viltrox 56mm f1.4 and have also used a Samyang 85mm f1.8 manual focus.

There are now a lot of decent Chinese lenses around that are worth checking out.

The old Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 R is good value used.

I haven't followed the rumour mills lately but if Fujifilm are bringing out a camera with a new sensor size soon I'd expect it to be a compact or all-in one rather than a new system.
