Personal Photographers for Government Ministers

I see that seven cabinet ministers now employ personal photographers!  And they are all paid for by us, the taxpayers.

Surely the government could save the nation some money by putting out a casting call on Purpleport?  There must be some togs on here that would leap at the chance to photograph famous people and visit unusual places?  I'm sure there are several of us that would do it for free; I would be happy with some sausage rolls off the buffet myself.

They are described as "vanity photographers" by the way.  I don't think that's very complimentary; anyone putting the subject in a good light can be this!  We'd just have to avoiud snapping the shot where the agri minister stuffs a burger into his/her cakehole.

Must admit, I’d like the opportunity to photograph famous people. Not sure I’d want to do it a a full time job though…

Indeed, I would assume "Bacon Sandwich" is a big reason why they have them!

I heard this a couple of days ago - being paid 70k apparently. Not a bad gig 😐

What they'll need is a Portrait Pro photographer as opposed to a Pro Portrait photographer. ;)

That's interesting as there was a job up recently to be the official Downing Street photographer and the pay was a lot less than that - and crap for London IMHO

I guess if there is a photographer looking for a 9-5 then it might tempting.

Having read the spec I was drawn to "Manage junior members of the team and upskill them in photographic best practise".  Why not just say train?

it's typical clickbait fodder, they are pretty much the same people that were employed by the previous government and whilst they are termed "vanity photographers" by the press they are employed by the ministers' department as departmental photographers and part of it's communications budget.

I think the pay is poor for London but I guess it comes with the benefits of being in the civil service

Because the advert was written by the HR department, who "onboard" people in order to "upskill" them.  :-)

I could imagine there may be a long line of people happy to shoot government ministers!😂

MPs have teams of varying size, the hgher up the foodchain the larger the teams all paid for outof taxpayers money.

Why shouldn't the photographers be paid along with the PAs, drivers, security, advisors etc?

I think if the OP worked for an MP they would be surprised at how quickly the novelty of working for free wears off when everyone else is being paid.

I've got no issue with professionals getting paid, and we've got a Government who are very good at spending other people's money in power right now.

I heard Rayner's tog is on £48k a year. I hate the woman's guts, but £48k seems a bit low for the level of profile and the fact it's London?

Spike you are right it would be great for about a week, then I’d let someone else have a go…

Surprised how many want one, considering Boris' Photographer took lots of the photos that caused his downfall. You'd have to undergo intrusive vetting and then have to work in an environment filled with utter buffoons, arrogant, entitled idiots and narcissists. Many of Ministerial staff hold them with a cult like leader and fawn over them. Many of them haven't done a proper job in their lives outside of the 'bubble!' I think I'd rather work in Snappy Snaps for minimum wage!

Would be hard to get a good shot of Starmer. Right now it looks like his best side is OUTside... of the government!
