That was an amazingly generous act - the sort of thing that I hope I would do if a similar situation arose.
I don't think I've ever done it at this kind of price point/newness (!! well done that lovely man !!), but gifting people kit you don't use is psychologically one of the most liberating things you can do, for sure.
I gave away my first DSLR when I bought the camera that obsoleted it as a backup. Recipient was gobsmacked because this was only late 2000s, and it was still very usable kit, but in my head I knew that if I didn't pass it on now, it would sit in a cupboard completely unused, I'd fail to sell it, and only give it away later, likely to the same person.
One net benefit is making someone's creative life more interesting for longer just because you can, and perhaps changing their perspective on what they are capable of.
The other: cupboard space.
Never give away stuff you still need. But we all have stuff we think we could sell or trade that we never do; it's better to find it a home.

What a wonderful gesture, just goes to show there are still really nice genuine people out there. Enjoy the camera

The kindness of models and photographers sometimes amazes me, but this one really is going above and beyond.
With all the crappy stories we hear it is lovely to hear something which just out-and-out niceness. Thanks for sharing it.

Nice to see people like Steve are out there in the world. He will get satisfaction in the knowledge you will use it and apreciate it and thats often enough for people.
I've a tendancy to give stuff away for free a lot of the time (Not camera stuff, I hoard that) when doing clear outs, once I know its going to a good home, I dont like the thoughts of going to the effort or trouble of trying to sell something I no longer want or need just to earn a few bucks from it, Some people get pretty mean and tight about their stuff they dont use/need, I would rather gift stuff to people who dont have something but want it I'd given away PC's laptops, 3dprinters, huge amounts of model making gear, (usually after upgrading or loosing interest in a hobby) recently was trying to get rid of two printers one being a Canon pro10 and could not get anywone to take them, so they ended up in the recycle centre. I've still got stuff in storage related to some other hobbys that are waiting to find the right person to give them too.

It really is above and beyond, I'm still completely shocked.
I'm hoping to try it out this weekend :)

@Golding would you mind to post some of the results here on this thread so we can celebrate Steve and you properly?

Enjoy using your New(ish) Fuji. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. What an absolute gem of a man to gift it to you. Sometimes people restore your faith in the human race and Steve is certainly one of those.
