Its quite hard work spending money on models

Is it me? If I send out 10 messages requesting a shoot (*paid) I seem to get only if I am totally honest 2 replies 3 at most. I can right now only offer 1 fully paid shoot a month, I generally start the message with "is possible to shoot you paid ?". I always say the level is set by the model and always try and be extremely polite. It's quite exhausting and frustrating at times.  In the last few month I been only offering paid to extremely professional and well know models but the same result occurs.

In the business world if I offer to pay for sometimes time, I usually get a reply within 24 hours, its seems its not the case with some models (I am talking about full time models). I can hear some of you say but I am so busy and so booked up and don't get time to reply. I say to that well how does the system work then? I keep a record of who dont reply, I mean "pro" models, and its quite astonishing , I wish I could work out what to do.

Before you reply to this thread.

1) I always accept £50ph

2) I always pay travel even for TF

3) I always offer lifts to station

4) I always stay polite (sometimes blunt) but always respectful

5) I send a chase email in 2 days

Yes ok move on..................but I am running out of models with in a reasonable distance. I am shooting less now than I have ever (model wise) done, wonder what to do?

I wonder how many models use this website as their main resource for booking shoots? Did you happen to see when they were last online etc?

I find there's more people booking through the likes of Instagram. I've arranged most of my recent shoots on there, although even then replies aren't always the quickest but if potentially a model is shooting 4 or 5 days a week that doesn't give them a huge amount of time to respond to messages and book in shoots and all the other admin they potentially have to do.

Jessica Leigh Photography thank you I do always start on Pp as that seems the professional way and I do always check if they been active in the last 24 hours. It's not that they not seen the message it's just no reply.

My local one man garage always reply to me within 24 hours so I don't see why a model can't. It's a fact I thought being self employed means you have to work after the working day to get more business for the future. But even so surely after 2 days or 3 days or even 2 weeks I would expect a reply?

Hi Martin.

The answer is simple 😊

Just like models, if you limit yourself to shooting only within a certain radius, you put limitations on the models available to shoot.

Kindest regards

Ashley

Just a question Spartacus but why do you shoot ? You try and book a model every month? I'm guessing it's a hobbie you really enjoy.

I think sometimes in the online world you have to give it a bit more than 24 hrs.

This no reply thing probably happens more today than previous but not everymodel would not be replying. I guess if you are also choosing from what you stated are the most professional models, taking the word 'professional' with a pinch of salt you may enquire more lack of replies. Could also be a rate of pay issue.

Try:

- Would you be intererested in a 4 hour shoot (£200 plus travel expenses) at XXXX  on one of these three days XXXX YYYYY ZZZZ?
- I wish to shoot art nude/topless
- please reply by XXXX (give two working days) if interested, as I have not yet offered it to anyone else.

Give it till the deadline, then move on to the next.
If you get no answer twice, block them and forget them.

As a professional full-time travelling model I check my purple port 2-4+ times a day. I also have email notifications on sync too.

Just if I’m on a photoshoot I’m not on my phone or laptop as I like to give my full attention on the shoot. So even for me it could take me a few hours to reply if I’m on a booking, or if I’m flying somewhere I can’t reply in the air haha 😅

Unless one has unlimited resources including finances and time the vast majority of us will have a finite radius within which one can work.

I've mentioned this before but if I do a 'search' for a 100 mile radius of my location there is actually a tiny number of "active" models, and a large number of "has never, " "rarely replies", "last logged in last years."

I'm sorry to hear this.

As I mentioned above, this is also the same for models.

I couldn't be a professional model if I limited myself to one area. This is why I tour,

It saves the photographers money and also time, if they catch me within their area.

If a photographer would like to work with me but is miles away, it makes sense to -

-follow the model

-add them to want to work with list .

This then alerts the photographer to a casting if it falls within their radius, but also it helps models to decide where to tour .

This approach usually works for me 😊.

I recently travelled to Belgium and worked with some lovely photographers.

Kindest regards

Ashley

Also - should I mention, if there are health reasons or financial reasons, I also invested in remote equipment to further open up this opportunity.

I can't say I've really had an issue for paid shoots but the I do sometimes on tfp castings I've applied for, which I expect as not every model will like my work.

I do tend to apply for casting when the model is on tour at studios I like to shoot at or staying in my local area.

Organise a month in advance, giving you time to get replies and also increase the % chance of shooting before they are booked up.

my thoughts are do you only shoot at your home or do you do studio days?
