Bias towards white models in competitions

In today's competition I found only 2 images of non-white models. One image bore no relationship to the theme and the other was only loosely linked. Those images which tried to link with the theme are more likely to get votes.

Looking through the recent competitions there seems to be wayyyyy more white models in images entered, so the chances are greater one will win.

I vote based on if the image suits the competition theme and the quality of the image.

More good quality images of non-white models that suit the theme will help.

Have you entered any site competitions StudioBob?

Easy to check.

A few minutes looking through the old competitions shows there is no significant colour bias.

Uninteresting photos with no relevance to the subject matter get one or two votes unless the genitalia are the main point of the photo, in which case they get about five votes.

YorVikIng one of the bonuses of hitting 40, you can say it how it is with liberal abandon and give zero F's 😄😄

You are 40?

I chatted to my best friend the other day and confided in her that I was on Purpleport, she had never heard of it but went to take a look after she left. A couple of days later she asked if it was a pornographic website, I told her of course not, it's for models and photographers creating art. Her reply to me was it didn't feel like art?

I wish that Purpleport also had an SFW only website, it wouldn't be hard to replicate would it :-)

I'm not sure why that would surprise anyone - this is primarily a UK site. If you check census results around 3% of the population identify themselves as "black" (irrespective of what the BBC would have you believe).

Whilst the OP has specifically raised a point about Afro-Caribbean models (of which there are 120 total on Purpleport) I'm sure much the same conclusions could be drawn about, for example, male models, or models over a certain dress size, or numerous other categories.

The fact is people voting for competitions will vote for

1. What appeals to them personally (and most of the voters are middle-aged white guys)

2. How well the picture delivers the competition theme

3. Pictures which are worse than their own entry, in order to game their own pictures nearer to the top 3

4. And very occasionally, the technical merit of the photo...

It's not a conspiracy, it's merely a reflection of the demographic using the site. If site members are ridiculing models for their ethnicity or gender then there would be a case to answer.

The only competition I have ever won was with an Afro Caribbean model. I don't enter very often these days as I get so few votes but tacky nudes do much better. One has to remember that ethnic minority models on PP are just that, in the minority in membership. When I vote, it is for pictorial reasons along with subtle editing. Ethnicity is not a criteria I use to vote or not vote.

My observation is that white models seem to get considerably more votes in Purpleport competitions than Afro-Caribbean ones and other non-white models. I find this surprising and disappointing.

It is interesting that after your 'observation' lots of people jump in to dismiss it, using their usual tactics of belittlement, mockery etc.

or perhaps the "jokes" you refer to as belittlement and mockery are justified on a post which seems to be insinuating racial prejudice on a wide scale across PP without any more foundation than an observation.

Its about time this thread was buried and not given any more attention.
