Fake accounts

Just a warning...

Like other photographers on here, I sometimes do shoots which a lot of times, are not posted on here or social media.

Note: The use of the word 'model' could imply both male and/or female. The model in question may or may not be a member of this site.

I did a shoot not so long ago and were both happy with the back of camera shots. Upon leaving, the model gave me a warning about receiving unsolicited messages claiming to be them..which I thought nothing of...

I have my suspicions...But I have reason to believe the person impersonating the model may well be a member on here. Between the two of us, we've managed to get one Instagram account shut down, however I've received another message this morning..On my personal Facebook account requesting photos from the shoot to post on a certain adult orientated 'folio' site (you know the one). After clarifying with the model, it appears this is yet another (very convincing) fake account trying to get photos under false pretences...

I wouldn't normally make a post like this, but on this occasion there's things which are causing me to be concerned...

So...Just a head's up people... Be careful out there...all is not what it may seem!

Yes, this happens a lot. There are people who impersonate models on this site requesting access to images, helping them impersonate further. They often contact photographers on WhatsApp also, Instagram etc...its quite scary as a model. For myself, I had a fake account book multiple shoots with photographers, which I obviously weren't aware were booked because it wasn't me! I had one send images of a nude body that wasn't mine to photographers.

They can kill reputations!

Which is why, whenever possible, it's better to keep conversations on this site. However, if you need to move off-site to share images or have more in-depth discussions about a shoot, make sure to exchange verified contact information while still communicating here. If someone reaches out on FB, IG, or any other platform and it doesn’t seem like their usual contact method, it's smart to return to the platform where you last spoke to verify. It's basic practice in today’s digital world.

I've had one on here trying to get pictures under false pretences. It was 'I've accidentally deleted the edits from our shoot; please can you resend them - especially the nude ones'. Erm... we didn't shoot any nudes!

And there was that one only last week - someone with a fake account (been on here for about six months, IIRC) posting on the forum on here to slag off a certain model.

Timely post.     I've been approached by two models on Instagram, for shoots. Had fairly long conversations of what they want, what cloths and locations etc.

Both arranged shoots, both no showed . I then messaged one of the models on WhatsApp and she said she's had a stalker who's been messaging a lot of photographers arranging shoots.

Had a similar thing where we've moved off site for image exchange but Comms has gotten a bit weird as a result.

Next thing you know, they've been removed from here.

This begs one question, How would this false model/impersonator know anything about the shoot ?  If no pictures had been posted and all communications had been via whatsapp or PM on instagram then how would they be aware of the shoot taking place ?  There would only be two ways and one is that someones account has been hacked and the other is that all communications have taken place in a public chat domain, which we dont recommend here.

ThePictureCompany references perhaps, it's advisable in my view to not post too much info that only you and model should know on references.

References is only a guess.

These days models IG from the shoot, do fb updates yada yada yada, If billion-pound banks and massive networks like Facebook can't prevent it, then nobody can ;-) Welcome to the digital jungle! not the fun, Tarzan-swinging one. No, we wiped out all the real jungles—this one’s full of scams, trolls, and catfish and everything you say can be used to scam you or someone else :-)

Orson Carter I remember that post from last week. "Collaboration or being paid" Ended up in the sin bin. The op was a very grumpy cove.

There are at least 2 accounts I’ve identified as fake, one of whom I’ve shot with. In that case I suspect it’s actually the partner of the model (who I’ve met) who is running the account. The other I suspect might be designed to embarrass the person in the pictures. Or perhaps just for the fake to ‘get their jollies’. Both want to talk and talk but not to book anything.

That said they’re just suspicions, I have no solid evidence, just experience and tingling spider senses, so don’t feel happy reporting the accounts. I’m just at the ‘looks like a duck, walks like a duck…’ stage

Admin's preference is always that we report things that "aren't quite right".  Where your spidey senses are tingling, let Admin know.  They'll make a note, and if the list of such notes from different people starts to get too big they'll be in a better position to take more specific action.

Thank you for mentioning this Sensual Art .

If you are concerned an account is fake or a similar suspicion, we'd much rather this is reported to us so we can take a look.

Worst case scenario: we won't find any evidence, and so don't take any action. In this case, not much has been lost by us taking a look, but we'll have a record of the report should new evidence come to light in the future.

I don't think that's the one Orson means. I think he's referring to a brief, fiery moment of nasty tiktok bullying that arrived on the forums, collapsed into self-parody and was then washed off with bleach by the admins. It was short-lived.

Can someone speculate how it benefits them to get someone else's copyright?

Mike - you're right. It was the bullying one I was referring to. And the poster had been on here for about six months. :(

Coincidentally, A few weeks ago I was in communication with someone who started asking questions that, IMO, seemed a bit strange for someone in their location and with their background to be asking. Nothing untoward - nothing reportable - but perhaps they were hoping to eventually steer the conversation. Anyway... I stopped replying. And lo and behold... A day or two ago I had a notification that that person had been removed from the site. I obviously wasn't told why they were removed, but I did a 2+2.
