Tabitha Boydell at a guess (I am on my phone so can’t easily check) you are still referenced in the HTML markup of a reply somehow, even though you have been edited out of it visibly. AFAIR There’s some hidden HTML on containing wrappers that gets carried forwards, and perhaps the WYSIWYG editor didn’t fully remove it.
And indeed that is exactly it:
Basically it is Theta Aeterna 's fault ;-) He must have started by replying to you on something, edited out the text, typed something else, and somehow it has ended up attributed to you, because TinyMCE (the WYSIWYG editor Purpleport uses) is a pile of unmentionable. (But also because relying on user-supplied markup is not really a sustainable way to implement threaded conversation! This could be abused)
Edit: Actually it might originally be indemnity 's fault? But you can see (if you know any HTML) that there is some corrupted markup somewhere. Every time someone replies to either of those two comments, that misattribution is going to lead to you being notified that you are being quoted.

indemnity is the villain.
The clues:
1. His post was quoted not just by Theta Aeterna but also by tandi
2. His post has a curious space indent, possibly suggesting editing

Yes he definitely is! ;-) (Generally speaking, even ;-))
The confusing thing is the way the markup of Theta's post is interpreted in my browser, it doesn't initially look like that.

I quoted you early on?
Yeah that's fine, I just got a lot more notifications that are false. For example, the one above. That person only posted once on this thread and did't quote meBuggy!
Don't worry Tabitha, you and Mark Twain! I quote all the time :-)
