Help with a tether cable

Hi

I have a sony a7iii and I need a tether cable for remote shoots.

I don't know what type I need and 2 I have ordered are both the wrong connection. Does anyone have this camera and can tell me what tether cable I need? Google hasn't been any help and on amazon none of the tether cables tell you which camera they are suitable for.

What cables have you tried? I've used a USB C to USB A for A7III to my laptop. And what software are you using?

I ordered 2 they cost a bit and neither fit it's smaller than the standard c that most phones have I think it may be a micro c

A7iii has both USB-C and micro USB Multi-Micro USB terminal. If you are plugging it into a computer that has a Standard USB port then you need the USB-C to USB-A cable. Or if the computer has a USB-C port then USB-C to USB-C.

You might be able to get away with just a basic cable if the camera is going to be static. You can also get a Male USB-A to Male USB-A extension cable and plug the USB-C to USB-A cable that you propbably got with the camera to extend the reach.

If you look at the manual link, page 15, the USB-C connector is shown as slot ‘6’ on the diagram. Just need to figure out what you are plugging it into on your computer and get the correct other end of the cable.

Everly, I would advise against a cable if possible. I once did a shoot tethered via cable. Needed to change a memory card. Popped the camera on a mantel piece for a moment. My model decides to run to the nearest mirror to check her make up and hair. Trips over the cable. Camera hits the floor. Lens smashed. Both lights come down (I caught one), and the laptop almost went too.

The chance of it ever happening again are probably a million to one, but I wouldn't risk it. Not when we have bluetooth, and other modern fangled ways of shooting.

Any DATA cable will work - just avoid any CHARGING cables.

We've been thethering since 2012 and started off by using our own data transfer cable. If you already have a short lead USB 3 computer connection to a USB-C camera connection for data transfer, then I would imagine the cheapest option is to buy a USB 3 computer extender 3m or 5m but not sure if that still works. So the best option is to buy a proper high visibility cable... But check with support first that it works on your camera!!!
