What films inspire your work

Nah. This place is about constant complaints about Copyright, A.I, and how every photographer is a sleazy scumbag!

Terrence Malicks Tree of Life (2011) I found profoundly inspiring.

Barry Jenkins (If Beale Street could talk, Moonlight) has also been a long time inspiration. I was privileged to interview him about his Amazon show The Underground Railroad. He's incredible with close ups of faces.

Not what you digital guys will want to hear!

I found that Fuji provia 100F was outstanding in its heyday. 😉

Frank Miller's " The Spirit". It is a lousy film and an appalling corruption of the Spirit character (I am a big fan and still have several of the original comics) but just about every shot of the many gorgeous female characters could be snapshotted as an example of film noire style glamour. The styling, lighting and angles are superb - it is just a shame they are set in such a boring piece of crap.

For general landscape cinematography the original Nordic "The Pathfinder" movie is stunning as is the Daniel Day Lewis "Last of the Mohicans".

For truly unsettling use of B&W " Night of the Hunter" is remarkable. There is also a low budget western called "Day of the Outlaw" which is shot in B&W in a snowy landscape and uses (I suspect) a range of filters to great effect to produce crisp and detailed shots in a difficult environment.

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)

Persona (1966)

Kubrick's "Stare" (Think of Nicole Kidman in eyes wide shut)

To name a few.

The Fall 2006 was by Tarsem Singh.

Fincher would have been doing 100s of takes of Zodiac at that point.

Correct. I got it wrong!

Another movie which I really love, for the story, characters, acting, costumes and cinematography is The Handmaiden. Directed by Park Chan-Wook. I have the Special Edition Blu-ray version with the 168 minute extended cut. One of my all time favourite movies.

8 months too late, but I would be kicking myself if I didn't mention the scene in raging bull where Sugar Ray is towering over Jake Lamotta

Not a film, but if T.V is allowed the series "Ripley" was amazing. If only it would influence my photography I'd be happy, you can probably freeze any frame & get a great mono image.

Someone here recommended it. Can't remember who to thank, it was so beautifully shot and lit that it stopped me paying attention to the story.
