Still don’t understand how photographers are doing this

I’ve been doing photography for 11 months. I’ve seen models and other photographers come in and start charging after doing it for a month. When I put my rates up 4 months into photography I was shut down. How on earth are people making money so quickly from this I really don’t understand?

For models it's a case of supply and demand.

For photographers the number who are making any money on here is very, very small.

Who are you hoping to charge and for what?

You have been told on several previous threads that very few photographers on PP get paid.  Those that do produce outstanding work.

Models are not a target market for photographers.

The photographers that make money from here you could probably count on one hand. The photographers that are making money are mostly getting their customers elsewhere. Mostly not from the modelling comunity.

Do you think someone is going to tell you exactly how they advanced their business in photography for almost nothing? At best they will tell you work on your photography, so if you want portfolio advice use the portfolio review option.

Also most of the repeated advice concerning photography business models is the same and is repeated across many threads. I think you are trying to do something before you are ready to and the question is why the urgency? Why not take the right steps if this is the goal?

Wondrous I’ve been trying to take the right steps and all advice I’ve been given I’ve been taking into account

Leaving the question of models charging to one side, photographers asking to be paid and photographers getting paid are two very different things.

The fields and parks are full of people kicking a football.

Repzee Photography Yes but I think you have made various similar posts in a small time frame. However , have you actually seriously self assessed your work ? Do you think there is a great improvement in your work from when you started that should make people want to approach you for work?

A lot of photographers in here who are not looking to sell are quite content being hobbyists. If this is really what you want I think you are jumping the gun.

Also you really don't know whether anyone is a success or not unless you know the ins and outs of their business. Even some models are struggling to sell themselves and from a modelling perspective that should be easy.

Do you have a business plan, there are plenty of camera owners who think if they just rock up on sites like this and assume they can start to attract paying customers. Do you have a USP that makes you stand out from the competition, if you ask for portfolio review you will get very useful advice.

Amount of time spent doing something doesn't equate skill. It can take someone years to pick up something that it can take someone else a month for example, so I wouldn't really factor in the amount of time spent doing something.

All that matters is whether you're providing something someone wants to pay for.

Sensual Art I’m not asking to be paid, I’m asking how are they making money from this. I’ve also had many models respond with “these are my rates” when I’ve offered TFP/Collaboration and I respond with “I’m offering TFP/Collaboration” and I’m met with the response “I don’t care these are my rates” it’s a bit frustrating because I feel if I said “would you like my rates” I’d be shut down like I was before

Wondrous I do think there is great improvement from when I first started to now, I believe if someone doesn’t make an improvement in something they are doing for a while then it isn’t for them

On the hand, if that hand was missing 3 fingers.

This is a resource for photographers to find models, it doesn't work the other way.  Models rarely pay photographers, you need to market to agencies, marketing companies, etc.  They aren't looking on PurplePort for photographers.
