This is a very sensitive subject. Like many other military shows, we're holding The Overlord Show as normal, it's usually the last May Bank Holiday weekend, which is of course now the Jubilee weekend. Unsurprisingly, we had a long discussion about Russian re-enactors too, and came up with the following explanation back in March:
We would like to give an update regarding the status of the show. As you will undoubtedly be aware of ongoing events, like you the show team is troubled over reports of the current situation in Ukraine. We have seen that some shows have decided not to host their events however, We would like to confirm that it is the organiser's intention to continue with the Overlord Show this year, with this year's charity being in support of the Ukrainians. The exact charity will be confirmed closer to the show so that it can be most effectively allocated where it is most needed. We would like to remind you that the Overlord show aims to provide an experience for the general public to learn about various aspects of recent military history through a combination of vehicular and re-enactment dioramas and proactive living historians. None of the groups that attend the show does so for political or ideological purposes. Those who have attended before know that we do host several re-enactment groups which present the units of the Soviet Union, in particular Russian units. We have no intention to ban these groups from the show, just like we have no plans to ban groups that represent the Axis powers. None of these groups represents the belligerent forces as they are today and banning such groups would serve no effective purpose.
