Cold Weather?

indemnity a flask of coffee on hand certainly sounds sensible. Those heat packs you tear open and that begin to get warm once they're exposed to oxygen have become a staple of my winter shoot kits over the years!

I was referring to me. ;) :)

Living in the North East of Ebgland I fear I'd never shoot outside at all if I was afraid of the cold 😂

Although I dislike extremes of temperatures I'm happy to shoot nude on location any time of year, as long as a flask and big coat are available in between shots.

Odd, as I was thinking how incredibly mild it is with sun next week too and temps around 13. Ok, no too great, but if you're moving around?

Baldbraveandbeautiful I invested in a head to toe Michelin man style coat last year. Definitely my best investment 🤣

Mercia Storm I have one too....although I slipped at a waterfall, it got soaked and being fleece lined weighed a tonne...me flailing naked in the water trying to get back up was hilarious 😂 😂

I like dramatic skies and nature, I put a lot of effort in keeping the models warm, well hydrated and fed during the shoots. Like Huw said, I also put a lot of effort in shooting „in and out“ type, quickly executed undress, get the shot done and dress to get warm scenarios. I don‘t even shy away from flat light. If the models are ok with it, I am ready!

Degsy I thought this too! Not too cold at all, especially when photographers are the ones with lovely warm coats and lots of layers on 🤣

Too damn right, ma'am. I'm a decrepit old pensioner and I've been deprived of my Winter Fuel Allowance this year. So I'm going to cling on to every bit of warmth that I can. On the other hand, you models are healthy young women so what's wrong with prancing around in the nip and getting a bit of frostbite, eh?  Too damn soft, you youngsters. No sympathy for the elderly. Pah!

[Please note this smiley... :)]

I can't speak for the north but where I am it's a balmy 13 degrees outside and hardly feels cold at all. The sun was out on Sunday and it was positively summery!

I've modelled in sub 5 degrees and that has a limited timespan, and calls for regular warm-up breaks, but definitely feasible.

As for rain I'd echo what others have said - what easier way to bring something different to an image?!

I'm pretty sure that if the photographer offers to remove all those layers and join the model au naturel, most models would refuse and probably leave a negative reference ;-)

I have been known to carry a Jetboil on long landscape shoots, nothing like getting the shot and then celebrating with a freshly brewed cuppa (Y)

I often shoot in a warm coat and a T-shirt.
Hand my own warm coat to the model a soon as we stop shooting.

1) it means I am aware of how cold it gets

2) a freezing cold model doesn't warm her own cold coat up very fast.

My mate in Lincoln wanted to do that, but he couldn't find any mountain rescue centres in his area.

On a sea survival course you're taught about shared bodily warmth but that might not go down too well with the model ...
